I'm reading this right now, and damn if it isn't one of his best novels yet. I'm really enjoying the subject matter, reminds me of The Ring. There are some amazing quotes in it, as usual. One of my favorites:
Centuries ago, sailors on long voyages used to leave a pair of pigs on every deserted island. Or, they'd leave a pair of goats. Either way, on any future visit, there would be a source of meat. These islands, they were pristine. These were homes to birds with no natural predators. Breeds of birds that lived nowhere else on earth. The plants there, they evolved without thorns or poisons. Without predators and enemies--these islands--they were paradise. The sailors, the next time they visited, the only things left on these islands would be herds of pigs and goats.

The sailors called this "seeding meat".
Does this remind you of anything? Maybe the ol' Adam and Eve story?

You ever wonder when God is coming back with a whole ton of barbecue sauce?
Has anyone else read it? Opinions? Of all his novels, I think this would make one of the best movies if done right.

He's one of my favorite authors, but I'm still kinda on the fence about this book. Read it once and have been pondering it, but I really need to read it again. As with all CP novels, it's full of incredibly acerbic, funny quotes like the one you posted that double as very insightful social commentary, but the book as a whole meandered a bit for me. I still think that Fight Club is his best book to date.

I'm still crossing my fingers that they'll finally make Survivor into a movie. Can you imagine Ed Norton coming back to play the role of Tender Branson? Holly Hunter as his caseworker? Tobey Macguire as his brother? That book makes me laugh the hardest of all his novels.

Survivor was definitely my favorite of his novels. I think it goes Survivor, Fight Club, Choke, Invisible Monsters for me. I'm not finished with Lullaby yet, so I can't place it, but so far, I'd put it in the Fight Club range.

As for the Survivor movie, there have been several scripts bandied about Hollywood, and for awhile Helena Bonham-Carter looked to be involved again, but after 9/11, I guess you can't make a movie with plane hijackings and religious zealots. Chuck said the project was dead awhile back. :( A real shame, because I think if as much work was put into it as Fight Club, it could be an even better and more shocking movie.

Agreed. It really lends itself to being made into a movie....it would be worth the price of admission just to see a hollywood recreation of the Porn-Dump toward the end of the movie. I'm LMAO just thinking about that. :D

I personally would love to see Choke as a movie too. I could see Spike Jonze reprising his role as the redneck in Three Kings to play Denny.
