Lukewarm: el cheapo aluminum case with side window for $39 shipped

I bought 2 of these when Compgeeks has the 2nd one for $8 or something like that ($73 for 2 shipped was the total). That was with 300W PS though. http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=6688-KHS Case is OK but a little on the thin side metal wise - makes it light though. A little noise too I found if you put a couple of additional fans in there. I'm happy with it for the meantime 'til I buy the case I really want. Others like it. The center fan lights up blue and red. And with a Gigabyte 8INXP in there, with the blue fan on the power module, it looked alright.

ohh i got one of these at dealsonic the other day for 47$ (free shipping)-
Do you guys think if i buy some of that sound absorbing foam, it'll make a difference in the noise??? i wanna know before i fork over another 20$

(oh yeah, the shipping weight is 11LBS for those of you who are shopping for light cases)

Putting sound absorbing foam on an aluminum case is sort of defeating the purpose of getting an aluminum case... Will make it quieter though, yes.

What's the purpose of the aluminum case, then? Just the lighter weight?

Aluminum has always been one of the easier metals to mold and manipulate. A lot of stuff was made out of it back in the day, in fact still is. I guess it'd be primarily because aluminum is shinier and lighter than other metals, or something.

On a side note, never put anything acidic in an aluminum container, i.e. lemonade, unless you don't mind throwing up. 😛

Anyway, I found a better deal on these forums a while ago. I don't know if it's still going though, and I'm far too lazy to check.

Aluminum cases cool much easier than steel cases....

I purchased several aluminum cases and guess what!? Will not buy another cheapie again. They do nothing to muffle the fan noise. The better aluminum cases have thicker walls than paper thin and will not let the fan noise out through the sheet metal. Stay away from them unless you like the look and can take the noise. At least this one can mount 80 mm panaflos. With a Zalman and a quiet P/S you'll enjoy the silence. But then why would you buy a cheapie case? If one is going to take the effort and expense to buy quality why not but a quality case?

Damn right man. I'd just buy an Antec with the PS (or if you don't want the PS, then just buy the cheaper Chieftec Sx1040 server type cases for $50...they're the same thing, but Antec's obviously have the better PS and snazzy Antec badge! hehe) 🙂

haha ok joking aside, i did order this case over the weekend and was wondering if i have a ENERMAX EG365P-VE(FM). 350W Power supply and a Pentium 4 processor (with wuteva heatsink and junk it comes with)... no other fans... (well if u dont count the one on my geforce4 ti 4600 and two harddrives of course).... does it make a lot of noise? i mean if it does, i will buy the noise absorbing foam because i really dont care about the whole "giant heat sink" thing that alluminum boasts nor do i care about a few degrees different in temp, i got the case cuz its light and looks more appealing then my current case and i really dont want this thing keeping me up at night~

i got this case, from pricewatch, with 400w powmax. surprsingly quiet and teh light is kool. I paid $47 for it with ups shipping includued. the company was 3btech in IN. Overall i am very happy so far. the powmax is really quiet so far.
