Lukewarm - 15% Off CRUCIAL.COM and Free 2 Day FedEx

Why would you want to post that here, when this site has it's own 15% off link. When I order, I use the link from here and support this forum. If I were a mod, I would find this thread offensive.

why would you find it offensive? I think it is a good deal, it just happens to be the same deal we already enjoy! give the new guy a break, we all had to start somewhere! oh btw welcome to AT

I would find it offensive for the same reason I find it offensive to have a customer come in to my shop and use the services I provide free of charge, while spending his money elsewhere on products I sell when he could have supported me...the one who's services he used so casually.

Another example...companies pay millions of dollars every year because it is customary for listeners or viewers of a particular show or event to support that show or event by purchasing from the advertisers (NASCAR, Superbowl, etc.) It would be fruitless to advertise with the event and have the viewers purchase from the competition.

Yet another example perhaps more on a less capitalistic nature...How about you take your significant other out on a date, provide her/him with the comforts of life while she/he provides someone else with the comforts of _____ (you fill in the blank).

In all three examples, if only these types of instances occured, both the provider and the provided for would suffer tremendously because the cycle can't or wouldn't be continued. We live in an "I'll pat your back if you pat mine" world. If we who use this service don't pat the back of the provider every now and then, that "back" we've come to depend on may not be around to help us out. That's why I would find it offensive if I were a mod.

And yes, for the record, I've used the crucial link through anandtech on more than one occassion, I also welcome you to AT, but hopefully you clearly understand my position.

<soapbox>

I agree with JameyF... Anandtech and Anandtech Forums, esp. Hot Deals, have helped me make so many well-informed purchases (I lurked for like 2 years) that the readers should consider giving back. I am not a subscriber, but I have used the AT link to purchase Crucial RAM, and do click on the banner ads from time to time. IMHO there are two things wrong with this post-- 1- it's a repost-- look at the stickied posting at the top of page 1 of Hot Deals, and 2- while not making an immediate difference to the consumer, it does place revenue that should go to AT (and eventually back to us in the form of quality content) in the hands of what... ZDNet?!? I don't know about you guys, but I find AT much more in-depth than ZDNet, and I do check AT religiously.

</soapbox>

Thanks, Anand, and all the rest at AT and the posters of HOT DEALS!

The discounts and free shipping are nice, but considering I just sold one 256 meg stick of crucial DDR for $2 less than I bought it and another (2x256 mb) for, now is obviously not a very good time to be in the market for memory.

yep, but sometimes you have to have the memory no matter what the cost. Gettig the 15% off through AT is a way ot support AT while at the same time getting quality stuff for less after shipping and/or tax than some of the generic out there from other vendors. Oh I wish crucial 256 pc2100 would get back under $40 again.

Jesus JameyF, a five paragraph response because the newb had the "gall" to post an alternate 15% off link? Give me a break. Thanks for the post Farhood and welcome to AT!

Thanks for the post farhood. The first thing that went through my mind is someone was going to blast away.

Everyone just please support the AT link that is post above in this thread or in the forum. Welcome to AT farhood 🙂

So Jamey, I assume you NEVER price match an item to get a better price. Doing so is just USING the other merchant's lower price which it cost them money to advertise and place where you could find it and provides no benefit to that lower priced merchant. Give 'em a break.

I'll bet Farhood didn't know about the AT link, otherwise he wouldn't have posted the ziffdavis deal. Just a newb goof.

I stopped using the Banandtech link ever since Anand got bought out by Best Buy. The deals just don't seem as good under Best Buy's ownership....

<< I stopped using the Banandtech link ever since they got bought out by Best Buy. The deals just don't seem as good under Best Buy's ownership.... >>

Am I missing something here? I just followed the link through AT and never saw any indication of affiliation with BB.

Also, I just realized that that 15% off sure makes a helluva difference now, as compared with the last time I ordered RAM--- not that it wasn't a good deal back then.

<< I stopped using the Banandtech link ever since they got bought out by Best Buy. The deals just don't seem as good under Best Buy's ownership.... >>

What are you talking about? Crucial was still owned by Micron last I checked. Yes, Best Buy sells Crucial memory but that doesn't mean they own the company. Welcome to AT Farhood!

First, to aldamon, the long response wasn't to farhood. The response was to DaiShan asking a DIRECT question, which I answered as clearly and to the best of my ability as I could. I also took the time to welcome him in my second post, after my answer to DaiShan was given.

Second, to JJordan,

<< So Jamey, I assume you NEVER price match an item to get a better price. Doing so is just USING the other merchant's lower price which it cost them money to advertise and place where you could find it and provides no benefit to that lower priced merchant. Give 'em a break. >>

Yes, I've PM'd many things, but this isn't really a good comparison. Price matching is a company policy and is, therefore, welcomed by that merchant as part of doing business. Some companies actually use price matching as a way to garner MORE business. Many companies have no such price matching policy for the reasons you listed, and as such purposely turns away targeted customers to do away with those hassles. It is the decision of the company, and if offered, that company should assume it will be used. It would be illogical to be offended by it. Furthermore, as long as their policy is followed, I feel I am supporting the merchant even if I do price match.

Third to Torval,

<< JameyF: you are an ass >>

What a wonderful way of dimenstrating how to argue with a well made point. I wish I could think of something that intelligent everytime someone says something clever I don't agree with.

Last to Skibby9,

thanks for covering my back 😀

I stopped referring people to the AnandTech link to Crucial the moment they changed the link to use webconnect.net.

I guess it turns out to be a good thing Farhood posted this Link since Anand's link is no longer 15 %. this one may go away soon too.

And by the way Jamie, the Store you are Stealing a Price from for a price match does not have a "price match ploicy" -- You are using that stores cheap price to buy somewhere else even though they advertsied the lower price and paid good money for that advertising just so you could steal the price. and buy from your favorite store. 🙂 Hey, I am not mad, I just think your reaction to the post was a little strong.
