Fry's has a maxtor 80 gtig HD for $49 out the door today. Seems like a pretty good deal if you need a hd!

I've got 5 of these drives from various rebate offers (Fry's, OD etc.) they usually are about $50 after rebate, so this is pretty hot - until you consider that these days you can get a drive twice that size for $60 after rebate.....

Plus, out of five of these, I've had two fail - at least the RMA process is painless, if it fails within the first year.

If these were Seagate (quiet, reliable and 5 year warranty) this would be hot, Maxtor is warm.

Did anyone pick one up? I got one but I have not opened it yet. I have not used maxtor yet. How do maxtors come to WD hd's?

Looks like this deal is back, was in Fry's a couple days ago and picked one up. Maxtor 80 GB, model number L01P080 for $49.99. I haven't installed mine yet, but a friend of mine did and it seems to be working fine. The one year warantee kinda sucks, but oh well, the regular price is $89.99 so I couldn't really pass that up.
