Lucky Star 6ABX2V MB (shopss PC): Will it work with celeron II chips?

The manual I have from this board says coppermine compatible, but says nothing about celermine compatible...and the web site has no info...

Anyone know? TIA

If the manual says that the mainboard is Coppermine compatible, it's CII FC-PGA compatible too. The only caveat is that the high Fixed Multipliers of CII's can be a problem. For example, the PIII FC-PGA 1000 Mhz processor has a Multiplier of x7.5. A Celly II 566 has a multiplier of x8.5. Some mobos need a Bios update to handle Multipliers above ~x8.

Thanks Klosters,

Your info is correct as far as it goes, but my info has been that if it supports coppermine, does NOT necessarily means it will support celermine. Certain Intel boards in particular come with precisely this disclaimer. Of course the reason may be the higher multiplier, as you say...

Anyone tried this board with a celermine?

Hey DaveH, it's no problem running a celermine with it. I am running a celermine 600@900 with a few problems. You MUST use a good quality slotket. I tried 2 generic slotkets with no luck but it works perfectly with an Asus slotket. I bumped up the voltage up to 1.90v and using a Golden Orb for cooling AND a Just Cooler 5 1/4 inch drive cooler.

You shouldn't have any problems running a celermine at its rated clock speed up to 9x83 or whatever. You WILL have problems if you pull that little "turbo66" jumper and make it run at 100mhz. My celermine 600 will run at 927Mhz but seti@home will crash every 30 mins.

Oh yeah... don't throw out your old CPU since the only way to make the stupid a$$ mobo redetect the celermine is to insert a different cpu... reseting the bios does nothing and it'll never boot until you boot with a different cpu... you can find the newest bios at www.boardrunner.com (same board as the luckystar but better website).

What a great post Alphapsi..thank you! I'll be sure to not set it for turbo, and use a good quality MSI slocket.
