People keep cribbing about mobo prices of >$200 being not worth it. They are still very generous compared to what we need to pay in our country (India). These are the prices we need to pay for motherboards:

Asus Z77 Deluxe $400-450

Asus Z77 Pro $320-350ish

Asus Z77 V $300-325ish

Gigabyte UD5H Z77 $350-390ish

Intel Z77 top model $320ish

MSI Z68 GD80 $275ish (expect plus $50 for Z77 I guess)

MSI Z68 GD65 $230ish (expect plus $50 for Z77 I guess)

And these are not even MRP. They are approx street prices for places which sell below the average rate. MRP and noob pricing is much higher than this.

Thoughts? :(

I was born and have family that live in Argentina, but I've lived in in the US the majority of my life. Whenever I visit Argentina I always become appreciative of how comparatively affordable electronics are in this country as they are grossly overpriced there. It's unfortunate that not everyone is able to enjoy these prices.

Dude I had to buy a Z77 Dlx for about $450 and it will barely last a year of use for me. Even my 3770k will probably cost over $400+. :(

Ouch! If prices are that bad then maybe you could look for more affordable components (e.g. 3570K).

I don't mind spending the money if there is no other choice. Just that it isn't very good to spend twice for the same performance :(

Your resale value would also be higher in India, unless you shove your old parts in the closet after upgrading, your really just "leasing" them until you resell them, and the difference you pay should be the same as in the US. Just your initial payment is higher.

Yes, it would be higher, but the total price spent is still 1.5 times as much.

Example:

USA
2600k $330
Sale: $250 shipped (non MC areas)
Total : $80 for 1 year

India
2600k $400
Sale : $280
Total : $120 for 1 year

I can't sell a 2600k for more than $250-280 in India, even it has about 2 years warranty. And even in USA you would probably sell way beyond $200 if you avoid MC areas.

PROOF

US Price $x
US Sale Price $0.6x
Total price $0.4x

India's Price $1.5x
Sale Price $0.9x
Total price $0.6x

The ratio doesn't change. So we easily need to spend around 1.5 times the cost.

And some things are really very expensive.

For example, 4x4GB DDR3 2133 CAS11 RAM costs $400+ over here while in USA it is a little over $110 or so.

The cheapest 240+ GB SSD costs at least $400 here, compared to sub $250 there. So many things are twice as expensive. And the resale value isn't that much difference from USA, yes, a bit better, but not hugely better once better technology is adopted pricing crashes everywhere.

Intel Core i7 3770K $450ish
Asus Maximus V Gene $350ish
16GB DDR3-1600 $160ish
EVGA GTX 680 $700ish
Intel 320 120GB $300ish
WD Caviar Black 1TB $150+
Enermax Revolution 1050W equivalent for around $300ish
Dell UltraSharp U2711 $1000

Other than your silverstone, the above parts would cost you approx: take or give 5%ish
$3400 or so.

Assuming you sell these components after Haswell releases, you will get the following resale:
Intel Core i7 3770K $200ish
Asus Maximus V Gene $200ish
16GB DDR3-1600 $80ish
EVGA GTX 680 $350ish
Intel 320 120GB $150ish
WD Caviar Black 1TB $75+
Enermax Revolution 1050W equivalent for around $200ish
Dell UltraSharp U2711 $700

After 1 year this will be your resale, of course you won't sell the monitor or PSU, but just to give you an idea.

Less than $2000.

So you spent around $1500+ for a year of use of these components. I bet in USA this cost will come out to be less than $1000ish or so :)

Well then, resale is not quite as good as I thought. You might want to consider ordering from Hong Kong from a vendor who ships internationally. I don't know what your customs and duties are, but it might actually work out cheaper.

Worth spending extra for warranty and service. I can afford it, but not everybody in India can, so just sad luck for not living in USA. And nothing competes with MC prices :)

I'm surprised that processor and MB prices are so high in India (I thought they would be lower!) In neighboring Pakistan, prices of at least Intel processors closely follow U.S. prices. A 2600K is selling new for $316 approx. Pak Rs 93 = Approx $1:

I would think that those parts are much cheaper in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Anyone know?

I have the same problem, although not quite to the same extent. Local prices are usually about 30% more expensive than newegg type prices for me (not India) when I can find the parts. Some parts are not available at all. I usually watch out for friends and/or family coming to my country from Canada/US and ask them to buy the parts for me when they come. Even if you throw $50-$100 their way for the trouble it's worth it. For light parts it might be worth having them buy the parts and then ship it to you if they are not visiting your country. You'd have to try and figure out the actual cost though.

Does India also have the VAT (Value Added Tax) that South American and European countries have?

Every time I sell something eBay and ship to one of these counties I'm also told to keep the declared value low on the customs forms so they don't get screwed on the VAT taxes.

VAT is just 5% in India.

CPU prices are pretty close.

Core i7 3770k is 21k = ~USD 385

Motherboards are at least 50% costlier in India, and sometimes nearing double the US price.

Graphic cards too are 30-50% costlier in India.

Get a friend in America to ship components to you?

I live in the UK and occasionally I see an American price for something and get envious of it (8GB DDR3 in America is only a little more expensive than 4GB in the UK, allowing for conversion), but usually there's not enough of a difference to get an American friend to ship components to me.

Components? Yeah, no.

But if you are trying to build a complete system... :awe:

SSDs are crazy expensive in India.

A 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 costs like $550 or so.

Crucial, Samsung, Plextor NOT Available.

Kingston is scarcely available.

OCZ is supremely expensive and crap as you all know.

Intel and Corsair are both 1.5-1.7 times newegg rates.

Economically well developed? Its India we're talking about where half of the population craps in the open.

Even if India was as wealthy and as socially well developed as the US with its relatively wealthy 300 million consumers well connected by a national highway system, mega chain stores or internet giants like MC/Wallmart/newegg are not to be found and big chains in general are still rare because of regulations and opposition from the mom and pop businesses which dominate the retail sector.
