Would it be wise for you to tell them beforehand that you have prescription meds so that when they see the initial results, they won't think much about it. When you get the detailed reports you will be cleared and they'd be happy that you were professional, upfront and considering?

even with prescription meds, you are going to have to cough up a real Rx from the Dr.

if it's a prescription med and you DO NOT have an Rx, I wouldn't mention it.

like I posted above, MOST tests only test for illegal drugs. if you admit to taking prescription meds, they may want to see your Rx

If you've got a prescription, you're fine. Unless you're taking someone else's, and if that's the case, why are you taking someone else's RX to begin with?

I was drug tested to work in a grocery store.

..drug testing is real cheap now a days. insurance co.'s offer big discounts to employeers if they have a DT program. There's a drug test out there waiting for all of us sooner or later.

of course it's legal here in the US.

if you owned a company, would you want some crystal meth freak operating the cash register, operating the crane, driving your delivery truck?

don't get me wrong, I think marijuana should be legalized - i think alcohol is a much worse drug.

If it affects their work, then yes, but if it didn't, then why would I care. Grown adults can do what they want, just leave the stupid shit at home.

KT

Well, the idea is to reduce the demand for illegal drugs to be used and roaming the streets. I don't think it is really working though. If it were a required procedure for all forms of employment in the US then it might work, but I'm really not sure. I'm also not sure if I want that particular door to be opened on the federal level or not even if it were only limited to synthetic drugs.

Drug testing is pretty lame if you ask me. Especially random ones. So someone is doing their job perfectly but fails a random drug test? Fire that low life!

I love how the insurance companies are in on it too. God I can't stand insurance companies.

When I was yonger I worked in a factory that did "random" testing. 3 per month always 2 stoners 1 more than likely straight. They got to me and I failed. Kinda a slap in the face when your EE of the Year fails the test.

Another reason they may test is that illegal drug users are at higher risk to steal/sell company sensitive information/etc. to pay for their habbit. I don't think that is the point of view for marijuana, but for the harder stuff even though mj gets lumped in.

It's much like a bad credit score can prevent you form holding jobs at certain places becuase of the same issue.

What someone does at home is their business. Drug tis clearly an invasion of personal privacy.

if its in your bloodstream or body when you are at work and is a known illegal substance, then you have every right to get your stupid ass fired.

..there's plenty of people looking for a job who aren't drugies. Those are the ones employeers want to identify ahd hire. Thus the reason for pre employment DT.

you do know some drugs stay in your body long after the effect wears off, right? Some will stay for a day after the high, with the person being completely sober, while others, like THC, will stay for a week to a month (if it's a urine test... it stays in your hair, I think only until, iirc what were the roots at the time of drug use, have had a chance to grow out completely... months and in cases, years).

yet many white-collar drug users may be better employees than the clean folk. Depending on their drug of choice. A lot of coke heads are high-rollers that excel at whatever their job is, just happen to have a personal habit, that they do on their own time. Everyone has a release, some choose drugs, some choose alcohol (a drug), cigarettes (nicotine - drug), and some choose some kind of recreational activity/hobby. Or a combination.

If a drug is supposed to affect your senses, then you do not want person to be making critical decisions or using equipment that could be/ or cause damage.

I believe that MJ supporters claim that it does affect senses.

normally, I would agree - i lean towards Libertarian.. BUT, if some yahoo is coming off a high and is driving my company's delivery truck and kills some kid, who do you think is ultimately responsible?

It is the same if someone came in drunk. What are they going to do next, make everyone piss in a cup and take blood each morning before your shift starts?

This is just another one of our civil liberties being eroded away.

yes, it's pretty much the same EXCEPT the testing is done for ILLEGAL drugs, not legal ones.

speeding is illegal also. what someone does off the clock in the privacy of their home is their business.

You forget, the drug testing is not mandatory. You can refuse to take it. But of course, they don't have to employ your coked up ass either :)
