Got called to HR today because my name was randomly selected for drug testing. I already know I will fail (prescription), but the whole process sucks especially after having a court date for an unrelated offense.

Court date for unrelated offense? What does that have to do with the HR drug test? If its prescription aren't you cleared?

This is news to me. I didn't even know drug testing was legal unless you worked in the military or were a professional athlete.

In the past I have never been "randomly" selected for anything. However, in the past month, I have been selected for jury duty and my company randomly selected me for drug testing.

Wow. Never heard of such a thing. I wonder if it's only in the US.

There are ways around drug tests, especially if they are urine. Consult your local headshop for the products, you usually drink them an hour before the test and they give you a window of time in which you can pass.

Most drug tests only test for illegal substances... if you are taking a prescription med (and it's not your Rx) you may be OK.

if it's yours & you have an Rx, you have no problem

I agree with the exception that they wait for the detailed report. My failure, which I know will happen, has to wait for HPLC results.

Same here. Actually my manager used to do a lot of coke. She must have started sometime after she first got hired with the company. Anyway she must have pissed someone off because they got an anonymous tip that she was doing drugs and they gave her a random drug test. She failed and was fired.

It sucked because she was the best manager and boss I ever had. She would get shit done. She was great with the employees and customers. The guy we got after that was a prick. Oh well.

of course it's legal here in the US.

if you owned a company, would you want some crystal meth freak operating the cash register, operating the crane, driving your delivery truck?

don't get me wrong, I think marijuana should be legalized - i think alcohol is a much worse drug.

What someone does at home is their business. Drug tis clearly an invasion of personal privacy.

If it affects their work, then yes, but if it didn't, then why would I care. Grown adults can do what they want, just leave the stupid shit at home.

normally, I would agree - i lean towards Libertarian.. BUT, if some yahoo is coming off a high and is driving my company's delivery truck and kills some kid, who do you think is ultimately responsible?

If you don't want to be tested you don't have to take it, simple as that. Of course, you won't get the job but that's your choice.

It is the same if someone came in drunk. What are they going to do next, make everyone piss in a cup and take blood each morning before your shift starts?

This is just another one of our civil liberties being eroded away.

yes, it's pretty much the same EXCEPT the testing is done for ILLEGAL drugs, not legal ones.

speeding is illegal also. what someone does off the clock in the privacy of their home is their business.

Would it be wise for you to tell them beforehand that you have prescription meds so that when they see the initial results, they won't think much about it. When you get the detailed reports you will be cleared and they'd be happy that you were professional, upfront and considering?
