This fan is a little bit noisy, what should I use to re-lube it?
a) veggie oil
b) KY!
c) wd-40
d) none of the above

well? 😀

If you've got KY on hand then there are a lot better things you could be doing instead of messing with a computer, that is of course unless you are.........I'll quit now.

do you have any regular oil (as in engine oil for a car)? if you put a dab on the end of a q-tip and then dab it on the fan (under the sticker...) and move the fan around with your finger to let the oil work its way in, that should work fine

will do, already got the sticker off.. hmm I wonder what the neighbors will say when they see me rooting around in the garage at 12am 😀

I oil my fans when I'm going to install them (most of the time). If they are new I may not.

I peal the sticker off,
drop in a few drops of 3-in-one oil on the shaft,
work the fan a little back and forth, add more oil if it will take it,
reseal the shaft with "FOIL" duct tape.

Just make sure and clean all the oil of the fan surface, so the "FOIL" tape will seal properly.

I've help quiet down several fans this way.

i use lube from radio shack
it comes in a pen applicator - it makes it real easy

Over the years I have found that the best lube for fans is the heaviest oil you can find. Any of the household and handy oils are so light that they just spin out. I have used lathe way oil, power tool gear oil, and STP successfully. Most have lasted for years.
