LS430 is nice.. I originally for some reason was thinking SC430, and was about to come in here swinging..... I hate those things. they are SO retarded looking... SC400 for life!

I rented an SC300 a few years ago and drove it to Palm Springs. Man, that is a nice car. Even with the inline 6 it would easily do 120mph. Very comfortable and fast.

I don't like the new SC though. They made it into a 2 seater and beat it with an ugly stick.

It actually seats 4..though the backseat is just a little bit more useless than in the old SC.

What's interesting is that the LS430 only comes in one model, the LS430.

The S-class comes in S320, S430, S600, and S55 AMG (plus the 4matic models for each engine choice sans the AMG).

You'd think with that widespread choices, the S-class would have more sales..but the LS430 beats them all! 🙂

It could also be that the "S" lost something with it's redesign 4 years ago. Most have said that quality (interior and perceived) has gone down dramatically and the car doesn't feel as substantial. Also, reliablilty isn't what it used to be.

Then you have Lexus with their stellar customer service and Maytag reliability record (and Herculean quality). Doesn't take to long to compute the results of that one.

And the irony is that the S-class was designed by engineers who penned the original LS400. As the story goes, M-B was shocked that Lexus could offer a car of that calibre at such a low cost. They needed to compete since they knew that Lexus would emerge to be a large force that would have to reckon with. So what did they do? They got a few engineers from the LS400 team to help them redesign the S-class.

We all know how that turned out. They tried to reduce cost to be competitive, but they lost their quality in the process. They couldn't pull it off. So you could say that Lexus somehow caused M-B to drop in quality. 🙂

btw, NFS4, did you get my PM?

I was told by a salesman that the backseat is merely an insurance thing. If it didn't have the rear seat, then it'd qualify as a sports car or something to put it in another class and it would have higher rates.

maybe because they already got the a8 there... its the same car basically

and BTW - these are not the top cars - as suggested by your title, they are just the top-selling cars
Who?s number one in U.S. luxury sedan sales?

WTF are you talking about? What's the difference between "top cars" and "top-selling cars"?

I don't know how they got those numbers? Those are NOT the top selling luxury sedans in the US.
The Cadillac Deville sales more then I think any of those cars.

What IDIOT cross shops a Caddy DeVille with the aforementioned cars??? That's like comparing a RSX to a M3. Totally different classes. The Caddy competes with the Town Car and that car alone.
what IDIOT brought up who cross shops what when the only critieria was full sized and luxury. 😛

My dad has a 2004 LS430. It's nice, and I get to drive it most of the time when we go to appointments. I have never, ever in my life driven a car that embodies pure luxury like this car does. It corners like nothing I've seen, glides over pavement (especially on the freeway) and accelerates like a rocket-powered bat shot out of hell by a cannon.

The interior has incredible fit and finish and build quality is phenomenal. It has enough gadgets to make you well aware that you're in a high-end vehicle but not so many that you're inundated with excessive controls and buttons.

Keep in mind that my parents have gone through several Jaguar, Mercedes and Lexus models over the years (they just traded in a 2000 SL500, and my mom drives an XKR which honestly is nice but not as nice as the Lexus), plus I've driven my buddy's Audi A6 and 745i enough times to have a good feel of how they compare.

I beg to differ. The day the Japanese build a boat is the day I buy American.

HA! I own one of those. It's hardly a boat. If you want a boat go look at a LeSabre or a Caddy.

if that is what you have to tell yourself to sleep at night, that is fine.

I was given my dad's old car when I got my license - a 1991 LS400. I like the simple looks of it, it's fast, luxurious, and extremeley reliable. It's up to 130,000 miles now. I sat in a friends LS430 a couple months ago, and it's just incredible
