Is there a device for the layperson to transfer records to cd's. An adapter that I can outsource to my computers burner or something to that effect? Some pretty smart people in here, so I figured this was a good place to start.

First, your LP/Record player has to have an audio output. You need this so that you can connect it to your computer using a 1/8" stereo mini-plug. Plug it into your line in. Now you have to get a program that can decode incoming sound into digital format. I think MusicMatch Jukebox can do this. There are other programs out there, but I don't recall them off the top of my head. Then just transfer the files to your CD. Try this download and this one. Hope this helps. :) :p ;)

Don't plug the turntable directly into your sound card. The signal coming out of a turntable has to be re-eq'd by a phono pre-amp. I know, stupid stuff, but that's how vinyl works. If you don't do this, it won't sound right.

So, more ideally, you'd connect your pre-amp/receiver's audio out (tape loop perhaps) to your sound card. You'll also need a special cable that has 2 RCA plugs on one end and a 1/8" stereo mini-plug on the other.
