So I'm building a rig that is to be completly solar powered but I've reached a roadblock in the planning stage. Its pretty easy to determine how much juice the computer itself takes, but I havent had any luck figuring out how much the LCD will take. A CRT is out straight off because of the high power consumption (more than the computer in some cases), but since I don't have a LCD panel I can't read the label for power usage. So, my question is, on average what does a 17" or so LCD take, and second, anybody have any idea as to what LCD is the most effecient? Or are they all the same? Thanks

solar power on computer? I hope you got a Seasonic or PC Power & Cooling PSU. That's definately not a stable power source.

As for the LCD, most are around 55-70w, less than most incandescent light bulbs.

Yep, my 19" is rated at 45W. Of couse, you can look at new technology coming out. Current LCDs use a flat version of a flouresecnt light for the backlight.
