Lowed CPU temp by 18F!!!

I lowered my CPU temp from 140F at 100% to 125F at 100% simply by reversing my side fan from an exaust to an intake. Now it blows cool air on to the processor. I never did this before because it didnt come that way, but I finallyg ot around to doing it. My Processor is an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ w/ ECS K7S5A OC to 150mhz FSB. I get 115 idle now!!! (was around 130). WOOO and this is with NO exaust fans, I dont have any more PS connectors so I cant use my rear fan. 🙁

lol, sounds good. Those temps are pretty good now. But I would still add an exhuast, just buy a 4pin Y-splitter cable to make more 4 pin PS hookups. Or get an adapter to make a 3pin connector if your mobo has any more 3pin headers.

The power supply fan should still be acting as an exhaust fan, but it would still be good to have another outlet for the hot air, preferably near the top of the case.

yea i have a fan under my powersupply in the back that i need to hook up. where can i get a Y splitter cable and for how much? (not online, does compua or microcenter sell them)

I'm just curious what brand of HSF you are using? I have never recieved a HSF when the fan was not blowing down altho I know it happens. I usually stick to cooler master, ax-7, gc-68 type stuff.

its not the hsf i reversed, its the side case fan I have. The HSF was already blowing down toward the heatsink, but not my side case fan blows cool air down onto that which really helps. I'll try to get a Y adapter and use my quiet antec fan in the back.

i got a Y adapter at radio shack for $2.99. CompUSA had the SAME THING for $23.99!!!! I told them "hell no, i can buy a good fan with a Y adapter in it for less then that".

I'm assuming you made the heatsink fan suck air in instead of blow, right?
