Is there any reason to buy this and when are they going on sale? Compared to the VW, toyota, and Nissan counterparts it has quite significantly less power than them. Is it really cheap or something?

They're not cheap at all, I've seen them go for $18,000 locally.

For that much money I'd rather get a decked out Nissan Sentra.

Get a new GTI 1.8T for that price.

The new Si is one of the *monumental* ripoffs of the 21st century.

I was at the dealer yesterday checking out the SI. Basically, it's suffering from middle age bloat. It's ugly, slow and expensive. It's better to get a base RSX, it's only about a grand more.

The best civic SI is still the 99-00.

OK good. Somebody asked about them and all I knew was that they had a pathetic 160 horsepower (15-20 less than the competition) and I couldn't believe they'd be any cheaper.

I guess they can be a good buy for riceboys to start decking out since honda is the big import name for that.

Actually I think most of the rice boys are gonna see if Honda is gonna bring the Civic Type-R here. Same car, but with the RSX type-S engine and drivetrain.

I think most riceboys just start with whatever random car their parents bought for them in high school...

Good observation.

What the hell else could explain Pontiac Grand Ams and chevy malibu's with giant whale tales on the trunk lid?

:) It's an easy observation to make...Way back in high school, my friends tried to convince me into ricing up the old Maxima I had (which I did buy w/my own money...) but in the end I decided against it :)

It's a Honda. It costs under $20K. It should give you significantly less problems than a Ford or a VW.

Yeah but why not a Matrix XRS or Nissan SE-R Spec V, both of which have 20 and 15 more horse power respectively! Plus with the Nissan at least (not sure of Matrix) the torque is significantly higher so you don't have to rev it high to get your power.

I think the SI made more sense about five years ago when Nissan and Toyota were putting out boring cars and everyone and their grandma was modding the other Civic trims to be just a bit more exciting...Now, the Civic SI has no place :)

[Edit] See the thread here for seven sportier alternatives :)

If it's got the same engine as the RSX without the style, it probably won't be that high...the RSX is $22.8k...

Honda would never be so foolish.

They would have to decontent it, so as to drop the price. 22.8K for A CIVIC? Whoever bought one for that much would be out of their freakin mind.

You bet. That's almost double the base price for the ordinary Civic's 11.8K price tag :)

The 99-00 CIvics were getting marked up like mad crazy when they realized everyone wanted one (especially the Electron Blue ones)

What was the MSRP on them back then?
