low voltage detecting trigger device or REM

I am looking to add an amplifier to my Honda GL1800 goldwing, which has a stereo installed from the factory.

The problem I am having is how to wire in the REM on the amp to turn on and off the unit, do I use a speaker lead from the stereo to trigger the REM on the amp?

Any help would be a great help

There should be a remote out on the stereo. If not, then there will be a switched +12v in, which turns the stereo. Hook you amp up to that.
