I have an Athlon T-bird 850@952 w/256MB ram running Windows 98se. My system resources have been dipping really low lately. My uptime is only 25 hours, but my resources are down to 8%! The only apps I have running is AIM and Zonealarm, nothing else. Any ideas?

Install Wintop and see what else is actually running.
Then after letting us know if there is anything else going, try turning off ZoneAlarm and then AIM and see if one of them is causing it, they may have newer versions out to download.
Check msconfig to see what you can disable to test the system as well.

You had win98 up for 25 hours? That's congrats in itself, but everything in windows leaks like crazy and I don't think I've ever been able to retrieve resources.

Move to 2000/XP.. There's no such thing as system resources. it's the main reason I switched.

Damn 25 hours running Win98se! Before I moved to 2K I could run maybe 12hours without a reboot. My Linux Box has been running for 4 months non stop. :) I agree that Win9x has major memory leaks, where they are... we'll never know that.

There might be a problem, but keep in mind that win98 has bad memory management. I never could run it more than 2-3 days without a reboot. Win2k can run for weeks without any slowdowns.

Hell, with my old PII 400 running Win98 I was able to use it for 9 days without a reboot! Well, I guess I'll reboot more often now...

Damn guys, my spare machine runs 98 for an average of a month at a time. Of course it's only running a few scheduled apps over and over, but still.

Is it windows, or is it us? <g>

I got a good memory manager program like memturbo and at certain levels it would automatically defrag ram and scrub clean and give the computer a fresh reboot feeling...

I hope excitement for 25 hours w/o reboot for win98 is sarcasm, cause at work and home computer often stays on for 4-5 days and I use heavily and wife uses throughout day. Office computer doesn't have memturbo and its been on for 1 week easy and I bet it is still 70 percent for resources...
