Low Res: 9600GT or 8800GT

Hi, I am using an 8600GT right now and looking forward to upgrading within the next few weeks. I only have a 17inch monitor, that supports highest res of 1280x1024.

The question is will I see enough of a performance boost to justify the extra 40$ or so to get the 8800GT? Or at this resolution will it be less of an issue, performance wise. I won't be upgrading the monitor for a good long while.

8800GT isn't much better than the the 9600GT,and since you're gaming at 12x10,a 9600GT is overkill for everything but Crysis and maybe WiC.

If you are going to be keeping your system for any length of time I would go for the 8800, if you can swing it I would even go for the 8800GTS (g92). It runs cool and fast. They can be had for $220 if you look around.
