Low-RAM usage client

I've got a problem: A 300mhz computer which sits on all day. I tried running the G@H client, but, it's ram hungry for this thing, as it's got only 160 mb of memory. This computer is running linux, and I need a text-based client, which is very low on ram usage.

Any ideas?(Remember, I'm running linux, so, dpad is out 🙁 )

seti only uses about 16 megs of ram and can run on linux. with those machine specs you wont get more than 1 unit a day but every unit counts!

Well, I really don't like the idea of crunching seti, as, I don't think they are going to find any aliens. even if they are out there, it's such a narrow band of space they are exploring, and, so, now we found aliens. yay! they are just millions of light years away from us, which means no form of communication could take place, anyway, as it would take millions of years to transmit anything...any other ideas?

why is it everyone thinks seti just searches for aliens?

They have found numerous quasars, pulse anomolies, and a host of other celestial unknowns.

DPAD only uses about 14megs of memory if you still can't reason crunching seti, you can help the dpad team.

it will pick up right where you left off. it writes to the hard drive frequently (dunno the exact time frame) but you should be ok to start off where you left off (give or take a minute or 2 i assume)

as long as you find a way to contribute to some cause thats the real important thing. every bit matters no matter what project you decide upon 🙂

Oh oh oh! I know!!! Its because SETI does just search for aliens! Thats what SETI is, Search for Extra Terestrial Intellegence. Its nice that they are finding other uses for the data and making other discoveries but that is not there mission. And even if the Aliens are 1 million light years away (which means there civilization is probably passed on a long time ago), the implications of finding that signal and the possible insight if we could ever interpret it would be historical beyond comprehension. That being said, I prefer DPAD 😉
