Folks,

I just received the Powercolor. The PCB is indeed low profile, but the mounting bracket is standard profile (i.e. too large for an LP slot). I'll try to jimmy it in if at all possible. Otherwise, RMA time. Bummer!

Haphazard.

PS: I don't quite get the sense in making an LP PCB but slapping a full length bracket on it!

UPDATE: Success! I've removed the bracket and installed the card 'naked'. It appears we are in business! It is a thing of beauty to sit and watch the nature and advanced pixel shader tests happen in 3dm2k1se. Life is good at the moment.

cheers.
Haphazard.

I'd def considering buying that Low Profile MX400 or even the MX200, as long as they have S-video out! LMK!

I just want tv-out, I dont care about 3D whatsoever. Anyone have any suggestions?

*slaps forehead* Maybe you'd want to mail PowerColor support and politely ask them how come they don't include an alternative LP slot bracket for their LP card?

I'm sure they'll SELL you one. :|
How skilled are you at metal-working? Clip off the excess and bend it to fit in an LP slot. ;)

Or borrow and rework a suitable one from an old ISA VGA, serial port slot bracket, or something like that. No need to twist and bend the one you have.

If you look around a bit, you might even find one that has the outlet in the right position from the top, so you just have to cut off some at the lower end, no bending, no drilling.

That said, they really should include an alternate slot bracket right there. Suggest that to PowerColor support, be polite (they're Asians, so be super extra polite), and see what happens.

regards, Peter

hey guys... my low profile pc is running like a champ... using the chaintech 7sid mobo after all, and using the msi lp mx400 with ddr. i ended up not using a small heatsink at all... i managed to fit in an svc gc68! not kidding at all! it has like a millimeter or two clearance away from the psu and like a 4 millimeter clearance from the case top. running at the same temps it was with the thermal integration one... much quieter! gonna add a couple holes to the top with fan filters over them (ventilation). as always, i try to make my pc mods look very professional :). nothing worse than a ghetto pc. also, i see how u guys don't like bending brackets and such, but being crafty, it didn't bother me. i bent and cut and filed my video bracket, and it fits great! i screwed it right in. of course, i could have fudged it up, but i had a premade low pro network card bracket for reference.

just an idea for the rest of you who don't have any reference... why not remove the bracket, and use one of these to hold it in? they make two, to fit all cards. hope that helps!
