For ages low-profile videocards used to be quite slow and the assortment of such videoadapters mainly consisted of low-end solutions, e.g. GeForce2 MX or Matrox G450. However, Gigabyte Technology decided that the users of small and nice computers should also have the latest technology for their service and launched its GV-AP64DL.
GV-AP64DL is based on the RADEON 8500 clocked at 230 MHz and is equipped with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM 5ns memory from Samsung that can be clocked not higher than 200 (400) MHz. Of course, this solution is slower than any RADEON 8500LE or even LELE, however, since it is from another market segment, we should compare it to the rivals from the same class. Hence, we can call this the most powerful low-profile videocard. The graphics accelerator is equipped with DVI-I connector and S-Video TV-Out. DVI to VGA adapter is bundled in retail package.
Gigabyte now sells these videocards in Japan under ASK Select brand-name. The adapter is priced from ¥19800 to ¥22800 ($150 to $173). Other Taiwanese manufacturers like CP Technology are also going to introduce their low-profile RADEON 8500 based board. In Europe we will probably see such solutions from Club3D.
