Lenovo G580 with ivy bridge i3 is on sale today at two places for $360 or less. I dont see a much cheaper option if you want to watch 1080p video and do file logging that requires 24/7 uninterrupted power. Sure you could save $50 on something cheaper, but man you could take this thing and actually use it to do real work too lol.

I just want to let you guys know that I've bought the i3-3220, MSI B75IA-E33, Seasonic 360W, and Corsair Vengeance White. They will arrive today and I'll try to set it up with Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm putting the case and SSD off for now due to the lack of cash :p
I'll use a 250GB WD Scorpio drive from my dead laptop for the moment. Admittedly, it's only SATA 1.5 Gbps but it'll suffice.

Thanks for all of your inputs and suggestions. Sorry if I'm being stubborn and ignored some of it ;)

Let us know how it goes! :)

At the end of the day, you didn't do too bad. The only real quibbles I have is the PSU is kind of expensive for 360W and the memory as we already discussed, but they are both quality parts.

Took me awhile to assemble all the parts... but it's done! Well, there's a few hiccups though.

Once assembled, I set the RAM to run at 1600 MHz 1.35V. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 on it without any problems. However, when I try to shut it down, it stuck at the Shutting Down screen. So I did a hard reset.

Then I installed all the updates and drivers from the DVD and Windows Update. This time the monitor's turned off but not the CPU fan and the PSU, even after I waited for about 20 minutes or so. :\

Next I tried to boot from a live USB of Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon. Again, the screen's stuck at the shutting down message of Linux Mint. :(

So, I'm guessing this is a motherboard issue??
On another note, should I ask this in the Motherboard thread instead?

Do you mean ACPI Standy State? If yes, the possible values are S1 or S3, not disabled or enabled. Currently it's S3.
