I am trying to locate a video card that is capable of 1920x1080 resolution at 60hz.

I do not need a high-end card. I will not be using it for multimedia. I will primarily be manually editing static images and documents. Hence, it does not need to be capable of displaying images that change rapidly. But , I do need a card that will allow me to see as much as possible of the item i am working on ... the max resolution my monitor supports is 1920x1080 at 60hz.

Any card with DVI from the last 3 years should be fine. The max resolution for single link DVI is 19X12. Video, multimedia, desktop will all be fine with even an $80 X1300 or 7300 series card. (Just don't try to game at 19X12 with those cards)

I saw a nvidia 7600GS by XFX on tigerdirect after rebate for 59.99 not including shipping. I don't know what your price point is but also on newegg here is an ATI x1600 pro or PNY 7600GS

Good Luck happy shopping.

Is'nt that kind of overkill? I mean at a maximum for movies and even 2d games a 7100GS will be plenty and it's half the price. I don't understand upselling but his money whatever right.

Yeah, I didn't think of it as overkill, certainly could get into a card that would support his needs for 30 or 40 less. Thanks to point that out Zebo.

If he can get that 7600GS for $59 AR that would keep him happy for a long long time even today with some mild 3d like Civ or homm5 or even some FPS with everything off...maybe we need to talk him into expanding his horizons because thats one killer deal:)

My 6150 mobo with onboard video can do 1920x1080i and 1920x1080p and higher if my TV could support it. I think the onboard video is equivalent to a nvidia 7200. I can playback hidef content w/ no dropped frames with my AMD X2 3800+ @ 2.4ghz. That includes quicktime 1080p h264 trailers, 1080p WMVHD, 1080i ts files, and ripped 1080p HD-DVD.

In other words, the requirement for home theater PC isn't very high. A good CPU and any recent budget card will do.

Now, if you want to playback PROTECTED content and deal with HDCP, oh boy. That's a different can of worms. But since HDDVD is already cracked and BluRay may follow soon, maybe we'll never have to deal with that crap.
