Low on resources

Every so often i keep getting a note saying i`m dangerously low on resources when i`m only running 2 windows 3 at the most , i have 256 ddr ram and 2600 athlon is there any reason why i should get this or is it normal in windows 98se to happen now and then ? , a reboot clears this for a while

Have you tried increasing your swap file size. In the long run though, you're going to have to consider more RAM.

Have you tried increasing your swap file size. In the long run though, you're going to have to consider more RAM.

Uh... 256 ram is ENOUGH for Win98se....

Dont change any settings (unless you have already messed with em)

Run an antivirus, Spybot and Adaware. (Updated obviously..)

you probably have your entire system tray filled with useless crap. Do this: start -> run -> type "msconfig" and hit "OK" -> click the "startup" tab on the upper right corner and then deselect everything there. Your computer will run much quicker

Uh, it obviously isn't ENOUGH for what he's trying to do, dude.

I think it is if he didn't have a million programs running in the background (either spyware or crap-ware like real player)

That may be true, but, he didn't mention anything about load other than "2 or 3 apps" running. That's why I mentioned swap file first. I never ran 98 of SE with anything less than 512 and no matter what crap I had running (I wasn't using Ad-aware, AdSubtract or any other type of anti-spyware/cookie managment software then) I never saw a low resource warning.

probably depends on what he's running, sure 256mb was ok when u and i were probably using win98se, using applications of the time. but he's running 98se probably with todays memory hungry applications i bet. 256mb? ick!! u need to double that atleast, 4x to 1gb is best as to never worry about memory being as it is so cheap. that being said, upgrade to xp, 98se is just...bad.
