Low Memory With 2 GB of ram?

Hi guys,
I've been encountering this windows error for awhile now, It happens semi randomly although I've have encountered it most frequently while gaming. I'll be playing when the game suddenly loses connection to the net, after I exit I am unable to connect to the net. If i try to bring up taskmanager i get the error message "The application failed to initialize properly. 0xc0000017" (which is a low system resources error if i am correct), MS help blames a program called aventail connect which is not installed on my system. This is extremely annoying as I have to restart my comp to get back online or use taskmanager. My memory usage when playing games such as DOD:S or F.E.A.R is only 40-50% (so it doesn't seem to be a ram problem). I am running XP home SP2.
Thanks for your help.

I see you use excellent memory which is good.

1st) try running a program called memtest (Google it) and see if your RAM passes this test

2)If your Network controller is flaking out I think the problem might be motherboard related.

3) When is the last time you reinstalled your OS? I have seen problems like this occur on systems loaded with spyware, malware and/or virused.

Good Luck,

Ausm

Yeah, low memory warnings are usually related to the pagefile running out of space. I'd increase the size of the pagefile. Yeah, you have 2GB of RAM, but Windows still really likes the pagefile.

I have memtested my ram (first couple of tests) and they check out. I have scanned for viruses and malware (hijack this also comes up with nothing). My page file had the minum at 2047mb and max at 3070, i just upped this a little to see if it helps. I'm not sure about the network controller, the mobo is brand new and i am still connected to the router (i can see my other pc also). Thanks

Bring up the recovery console and do a CHKDSK /r

Sometimes "memory" errors can be caused if there are problems when the O/S interacts with the HD.

Have you ever checked the Task Manager processes when this happens? Is there a process that seems to be using an absolutely giant chunk of memory?

If I were in your shoes I would go on an update rampage. I'd check for BIOS updates, and tweak my memory settings in BIOS. I would see if there is an update for my motherboard drivers and install them if there are. I'd update my network card and videocard drivers. I'd see if there any patches for the games I'm playing when it happens and update them.

I'd also scan for viruses and spyware. I'd check msconfig to make sure useless stuff isn't running in the background at startup, and if there is, then I'd disable it. I'd go through my services, disabling ones I find unneccessary or a security risk such as UPnP, Telnet, Indexing, Messenger, ClipBook, Routing and Remote Access, SSDP Discovery.

This might not fix it, I don't know.
