Trying to run 3DMark. It crashed once on my system for some reason. Just black screen. Whole system froze. Happened around cloud gate. Weird. I'm watching the temps in game and on my second monitor now. GPU never hit 80C and CPU never even touched 70C.

Got a score for Cloudgate though... ~24,600. Seems to be in the bottom of the pack. Physics score ~6,500. Graphics Score ~115,000. That's with my GPU running at 1400mhz almost constantly too. I have +100 mhz offset on GPU and +200mhz offset on memory. I think that adds on top of the default too. (GPU comes pre-overclocked. It's a evga 980 ti sc acx 2.0)

I'd send the card back for a refund, get a stock 980 Ti, and sell the CPU and upgrade it with the money to a 4790K

Uh, I don't think I'll get a refund. It's been about two months since I got the card. Second, it costs about the same price as a regular 980 Ti. I won't ever sell the CPU for anything worth much. (Maybe $150-225?) 4790k is still $340.

Here's the results from a full run. http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/9937204?

Never hit 70C on any CPU core. Barely hit 69C on 3 of them. Most of the time it was running in the 50s with a few peaks to 65C and then somewhere in there when I didn't watch it hit 69C for a nanosecond.

Compared to when I put heavyload on for 90 seconds and I'll hit 75-77C on all cores.

GPU would hit 1400mhz in game sometimes. It hit the power target a few times and was not hitting 1400mhz. I might up that to 110% instead of 105%.

Power Target: 105%
GPU Temp Target: 83C (never even hit 80C)
GPU Clock Offset: +100Mhz
Mem Clock Offset: +200Mhz

EDIT: I wonder what I'm doing wrong. This guy got insane numbers compared to me. http://www.3dmark.com/is/3453037

A couple notes here. Your score is pretty close to what it should be, but I noticed on the CPU reported speeds, it had the default clock correct, but the turbo clock was reporting too low. This is likely a result of throttling.

Due to the CPU temps on the test, the results were not too bad, but when it gets hotter, the performance is tanking. I'm guessing CSGO with the FPS you are after, is causing much higher temps.

As far as that high score on the Ice Storm benchmark, you can simply ignore that. That benchmark is not meant for PC's, but again, due to the extreme FPS you get in those kinds of benchmarks, and how CPU bound they are, your CPU is probably throttling.

Perfect - this is just the information we needed.

So here's your Fire Strike score:
14028 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti(1x) and Intel Core i7-4770
Graphics Score 19437
Physics Score 9365
Combined Score 5996

And here's mine with a 4770K@3.9 and a stock-clocked 980 Ti:
14104 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti(1x) and Intel Core i7-4770K
Graphics Score 17540
Physics Score 11113
Combined Score 6829

Your video card is clearly working correctly, and your CPU is just below what a 4770 at stock speed should hit. I believe it runs at 3.7GHz under a quad-core load, and should be hitting about 10,500 in the Physics test. It's close enough that it could just be something running in the background - it's not slow enough to indicate a failed core. As the poster above noted, your reported turbo speed (3.4GHz) isn't quite right. This may just be a glitch in 3DMark, but it's also possible this is an indication of minor damage to the CPU causing an inability to enter Turbo state. That would explain your small performance deficit in 3DMark.

What it would not explain, however, is very low performance in CSGO, as the CPU is clearly still quite fast, compared to, for example, a 4690K. It should not have problems running any game unless it throttles more than we're seeing here.

You might want to download FRAPS and collect some framerate data to see averages and minimums in a match. If it continues to report very low framerates, you might want to do a clean install of the video card drivers.

Well, it's generally 150+ fps. It just dips into 90s or lower in some maps with certain player loads. There's a spot in assault that I can almost always get into the 90 fps range if I just stand there and look. It's stupid how low that is. And all the cores and gpu will be low to mid utilization. (mid being <80% across all)

I don't get the heatsink in the mail until Wednesday (annoying). Kinda wish I drove down to frys and bought it but it already shipped. Whatev.

Just keep in mind one thing: 80% cpu utilization across all cores is not medium utilization, it is extreme. That's because a game engine cannot provide a consistent enough load to drive any cpu to 100% usage unless the cpu is entirely too weak to run the game. Your cpu is running it but it's getting very stressed.

Basically, you are completely cpu bottlenecked in that section of the game. If most games do this and the new cooler doesn't help, you might want to repost in the cpu forum.

I found that once in a while depending on the game and driver, not forcing maximum performance under the Control panel would cause very inconsistent frame rates and even stuttering issues as the clocks just bounce all over on my gpu.Has been a issue on pretty much all my Nvidia cards but a gtx650 which has a standard 1058 clock with no boost.

I found one game of mine BC2 oddly enough runs like garbage on any of the recent Nvidia drivers.Going back well over a year to one of those versions of drivers resolves performance issues there.

Got the 212 evo today (came really early in the mail, yay!). Installed it with some AS5.

Look at those min CPU temps. :awe: (Can you tell I was working on the computer in the garage for a while? :awe: My hands are still frozen solid.)

Updated benchmark. Minor improvements. That said I upp'd the power target on my GPU to 110% and the GPU temp target to 85C. Although, it never got close to the temp target. It did hit the power target.

Those are big improvements, actually. Your Physics score went up about 7% and combined score went up 10%. That's impressive with just a cooler change and an increase in the GPU power target, and suggests that you were indeed getting some CPU throttling before.

I can also see in HWMonitor that you are hitting the full Turbo clocks of your processor, so I think whatever issue might have existed is gone.

If you continue to have trouble with specific games, I'd look at game-specific issues, as your hardware is fully up to spec.

I also noticed the max turbo went from sub 3.4Ghz to over 3.8Ghz. The cooler made a big difference.

Just like to note that you will never seen 100% utilization with CSGO unless you change the number of threads that it is using. Which by default is two as I recall. If you do set it to four, you will see a peak of 50%.
