Can 2 256MB 7300's for $65 each on SLI beat a 256MB 7600GT for $130 in performance.

How do they compare?

Anyone got charts?

I think that the single card would be faster.
edit: 12 pixel pipelines vs. 4+4.

For a little more $$$ you can get a used 7800GT that will beat both those cards.

Good thinking, I used to have a 7800GT, still a great card. How much better is the 7900GS though? It's like the 7800GT, but on the 90nm process.

Chart
HL2:EP1 1280x1024 4xAA, 8xAF

7600GT -> 42FPS

7300GT SLI -> 14FPS

SLI (esp. low end) is a waste of frigging money.

Wow, no contest there. Dual 7600GT were cheaper than one 7900GT at one point and performed better, so SLI isn't always a waste of money. If you want to game at ridiculus resolutions and one card isn't doing the job, then SLI is worth it. For most people, most of the time, SLI is a waste of money.

Even if the frame rates were twice as fast as that, the 7600GT would still be better.

True, there are exceptions.

At 1280 by 1024 or lower, there is no real value in SLI, I'd consider it if I had a better monitor.

Compare the SLI version with the non-SLI 7300's and you will see.

kuqdew and everyone readling, I personally met the CEO of Nvidia and had a talk with him. Now can I say I really know him, or can I say for a fact because he is the CEO he knows all with his company Nvidia.

Well Mr Huang told me if you're not going to game SLI with high-end cards then it's going to be a waste. At that time of the conversation he was talking about the 7800GT, which would now make it the 7900GT.

Since I run SLI I can tell you I believe the man knows what he's talking about.

SLI is the high-end market of gaming, if you can't do it right is what he was saying then you're not going to get out of it what it was made for.

SLI with 7300 cards is pointless.

Where the gaming market stands now, anything less then 7800 cards for SLI is a waste.

This isn't about charts and comparisons over these cards, it's about what SLI will give you with these cards, which isn't worth the costs of two of these cards.

QUESTION, do you really understand the point of SLI?

By the way, there is nothing LOW-End about SLI, but a lot of people think like this is the way to go, and it's not what it's about at all.
