Have a 24" IPS, but I'm about to trade it for a 24" Sony widescreen CRT. That's the ultimate monitor IMHO. TN is bottom of the barrel, but CRT -> IPS is a bigger negative than IPS -> CRT if you ask me. Just buy what you want and be happy with it.

Yea I also have an FW900 (sig.) I used it for the last 5 years and it performed awesome the entire time.. until last week it decided to quit working on me which is why I bought this LCD. I can tell you its not an easy transition going from a high end CRT to a TN panel but I am impressed with the fact this LCD has virtually 0 ghosting while gaming. The only thing that might disapoint you about the FW900 is that its not a very bright monitor, its a little darker than the average 4:3 aspect trinitron based CRT mainly due to the electron gun having to scan a wider area (due to FW900's 16:10 aspect) But I still loved it regardless im able to control the lighting in my room so it wasnt a huge issue.

I plan on getting the FW900 repaired I just hope it isnt something major.. It made a pretty loud pop & bright screen flash the day it died and now the power light just flashes orange when you try to power it up.

Reading it now, but there's a review on the ZR24W.

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr24w.htm

"Black depth is the screens main weakness sadly, and so detail could be lost in darker scenes compared with some other competing models. Static contrast ratio is around 450:1 and not that great."

^^ This is very unfortunate.... and I see it has some ghosting issues.. I'd still like to know your impressions on it.

The TN based PX2370 monitor we're using now tested 890:1 static contrast.

So far, I'm loving the new ZR24W. Great quality stand with every adjustment imaginable. I haven't noticed any dead/ stuck pixels, and just everything looks great. The blacks are not as deep as the Samsung LED I have, but it's not that big a deal to me. Turning the brightness down helps a lot.

Just have to remember, for $425.00, this monitor is a steal. I do wish this was LED backlit, but I'm not going to complain too much. With my experience with LCD's over the years, I almost feel like I underpaid for this one, and this is definitely the best one I've ever owned.

Are you serious? A crt is like the dinosaur of monitors. They take a little bit to warm up, and take up a lot of room.

Thanks for the link! That was a very detailed and honest review. I still can't decide though :p. I dont even really know if my eyes are sensitive to lag of the monitor, as I would mainly use this monitor for very fast paced FPS online gaming. Maybe I should just spend the same amount of money and get a new 120Hz TN monitor. IDK.....

I have a ton of desk space, a CRT will only take more depth, and I don't have anything currently behind my LCD. Even if I lost 50% of my desk space, the far superior IQ makes it worth it. The warm up thing, hay I wake up, turn the monitor on, go eat breakfast and shower by the time I get back it's good to go. And when the CRT starts to go out, I'll take it to this old school TV repair shop around my way and pay whatever he asks to make it run like new again. I literally will be keeping this until a 24" OLED solution is out and affordable. That's assuming the stories are correct and OLED screens will actually be better than CRT's.

I used to have a sony g400 professional 19" trinitron monitor back in the day and apart from the two wires running across the screen it had a fantastic picture. I think that I like my 27" s-pva lcd more though. I get super rich colors, even backlighting and it pulls a fraction of the power that the sony did and if I remember right it took 145 watts.

Today I fired up Avatar bluray on my Kuro plasma and also have this LED Samsung hooked up so I could see both playing the movie side by side, its scary how much better the black levels are on the plasma and even more disturbing when you see how much more depth almost every scene in Avatar has.

Crap, all that did is make me want my FW900 CRT repaired even sooner.... dont get me wrong I still like this LCD, the clarity / brightness and colors are great but Wow the black levels still have a looonng way to go on LCD. Not sure if they'll ever get there tho being a backlit technology....

After fiddling around with the brightness and contrast settings and going through the color calibration on Windows 7, I think I got the HP set up as good as it gets for blacks. All I have around me is are LCD's, so I can't compare to anything else than my Samsung, but I gotta say I'm impressed. No regrets here.

I probably sound like a broken record about this, but I highly suggest anyone in the market for an LCD to check out EIZO's refurb page to see what they have: http://www.eizo.com/na/purchase/direct/monitors.html

After cycling through some of the higher regarded Dells and HPs last year I stumbled upon that page, paid ~$300 for a refurbed SX2461W, and never looked back. It arrived in perfect condition, and it blows any Dell or HP I've ever seen out of the water.

I bought this monitor as well to be my secondary. The touch sensitive buttons on the front panel are kind of a pain. I'm always tapping it to turn it off or on. When my computer goes to sleep or stand-by, the monitor for some reason, cycles through the different inputs, so i just power it off. You can definitely tell the difference with the LED backlighting though.

I did purchase the HP ZR24 and hopefully I'll receive it this Friday. It's my first IPS panel, so I'm not sure what to expect. I'm taking my photography hobby a little more seriously, and I heard IPS's are the way to go. I'll let you know how it goes.

Menu/ Setup & Reset/ Auto Source <- set to manual.

I shared my thoughts on this monitor in a different thread so I'll just link it instead of retyping everything. Opps. Just realized the confusion in model numbers.

Thnx...I knew a setting existed somewhere. I was attempting to find it last night, but those touch sensitive buttons were driving me crazy. I just gave up.

One thing I'm noticing more about the ZR24W or the IPS panel used is when I'm sitting on the couch watching TV, there is no color/contrast shift as compared to my TN panel. Every once in awhile, my email or IM alarms would go off....before I would have to jump up and walk to the front of the monitor to get a better view. Now all I have to do is sit there, squint if I don't have my glasses on, and do a quick check of who it is before getting up to respond.

After reading these reviews, I'm glad I purchased the monitor when I did. otherwise, I may have been turned off by the negative comments of the contrast and black levels, and not bought the monitor. I did notice the problem that I kept reading about when I first turned on the monitor, however, after some setting adjustments, trials and fiddling, I think I have it set up perfect for me.

My settings on the ZR24W for brightness is 35 and contrast 100. I even have dynamic contrast control on which seems to perform better than the samsung's. When I had it on for the samsung, you could notice when the LED's go on and off in dark and bright scenes in movies. It was very noticeable and irritating. On the ZR24W, I don't get the same affect, so I left it on and blacks definitely look good enough for me.

If things didn't work out, I guess I could have returned the monitor, spent more and gotten something else.

I sold my Dell E17fp which uses a TN panel and bought sometime ago an HP LP1965 which uses P-MVA and I can tell that the color difference wasn't that great, but the whites were much brighter and cleaner compared to the Dell and the black was richer than my Dell, loved the angle independent viewing and is fast enough for gaming (6ms), definitively I can't go back to TN, IPS looks awesome but they're too slow for gaming and their black levels are questionable, specially with their purplish tone. OLED all the way (I have a Zune HD and it looks freaking awesome). Hope that the OLED takes off.

There's a new HP ZR24w - 24" IPS panel for $425.00 dollars til the end of the month on the HP website. You'll have to go to the Small/Medium Business Store on the HP website to find it though. If you call to order it, you will qualify for free shipping. There's also a 22" version as well.

HardOCP has a pretty lengthy thread on it because there are no reviews out on the monitor yet, and as far as I can tell from people who bought it, it's getting high praise.

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1491561

It's way overpriced for $425 when a Dell U2410 usually runs around $460-$500.

Sorry but especially for photography you bought the wrong monitor for that money - it's standard gamut only, unlike the wide gamut U2410 which is only like $60-80 more...

Eizos have generally gotten rave reviews on prad.de, which is another pretty good monitor resource. It's a shame they don't do more reviews though.

I just hooked up my 2209WA and I was surprised that I don't see much of a difference. I had a T240 Samsung before. Besides the viewing angles which are better, I don't see such a big color difference.

T2k, where are you finding Dell U2410 monitors for 450-500??

The Dell site has them currently for 599.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-8277

Gixxer

Dell runs a promo every month when it gets just under $500 but if you cannot wait you usually can get it under $500 on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Dell-U2410-...Item&pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item3cac736f7a

Note that these are all coming with full Dell warranty - as a matter of fact Dell has its own eBay store and they used to sell brand new U2410s for $99: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=dell_clearance_store

Wow, someone is selling 3x U2410 for Eyefiniti: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-U2410-24-i...Item&pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item19bbacbdfe
