Low CS fps! Help!

Dunno if this is the right forum or not, but since it's video related then I just post it here.
Here's the thing, I'm a CS newb and usually play against bots (since I have bad 56k connection). I got 40-60ish fps, but it drops to like 5-10 during heavy combat. This is with 16 bots or so... I played in 1024x768 in 16 bit with full details.
My spec is Pentium 4 1,3 ghz, Asus P4t, Geforce GTS 32 MB, 128 RDRAM, WinME, I know it's not exactly top of the line, but still...
And today I went to this CS LAN party, all PC using Geforce2 MX 400, and the framerate never drops from 70 !! So what gives?

Any clues?

sounds like a driver problem. Get the latest drivers. you may just want to reinstall. Any way, I'd sugest you snag some more ram while the price is still low!!

Thx for quick reply Bart,
I don't think it's driver problem, I'm using 23.10 now, and CS fps still low. And I've tried almost all drivers (10.80, 12.41, 22.40, etc). Other games runs perfect, I got 3600ish 3d Mark 2k1 score, not that bad....
Maybe it's memory problem? RAM is on my upgrade list so maybe it can solve the problem?
BTW, is there any difference since I play against bots? Does bots require more power to run? Would I get better result if I'm against other opponent, say in LAN ? Like I said, I'm a newb at this thing 🙂

It not you card its your connection, modems imoh cant handle more than about 10 bots/players during a game. try against 4-5 anyprobs ?

That's the problem, I don't connect to any server, I just choose lan games, and create game, and then add 12-16 bots (I'm using realbot). So it couldn't be my connection since I don't connect at all 🙂

it might be a code conflict of 16 bot programs (each bot is a thread accessing your CPU) it can be that they all try to access your CPU at the same moment and that they have to get in queue, CS was not really designed with bots in mind so you might want to contact the bot author for eventual updates or suggestions ...

Yes, I got that all covered. I use opengl, turn vsync off, typed fps_max 100. I think Boran's probably right, the bots are using too much cpu power. Anyone know a good bots that light on cpu?
Thx

Try adding the bots one at a time about 3 minutes apart, and measure the FPS difference between them. If none of it is very good I would install the Coolbits tweak to overclock the GTS, and see if you can lower your latencies on your RAM. This REALLY helped my Half-Life game, and since CounterStrike is a mod it should help you also.

check your temperature

One thing that improved my fps by about 30fps was new motherboard drivers...they really help

GOOD LUCK and i hope you can play against real people soon...although many cheat, the game is still much better

Try going to some tweak sites to improve your ping in games (this has nothing to do with your problem)

try the official detonator XP, worked for me, got a geforce2 pro here, and cs fps was way too low, 19 ish, now its at least 50 fps when there are heaps of people on the screen, but mostly 85 fps, oh and this is only with a duron 800.

I'll try the 23.11, d/l it right now slowly. I still think it's the bots that cause this, it demand too much cpu power, that and I only have 128 MB of RAM. I can still play with OK framerate with 12 bots, but things get chuggy past that.
Thx ppl, I'm bored playing with bots anyway, and started playing in this cyber cafe against more experienced player, and found out I'm really suck at this game 😉
