Low carbers- I discovered awesome pizza crust alternative!

I just don't think I have the willpower to do a no carb thing. I like carbs too much. I'm trying to cut down a bit because I'd like to fit into *all* of the pants I own, as opposed to the current...some...but I dunno if I can do it. Something needs to be done though, because I'm not making much progress as is.

The first two weeks are by far the hardest. After that it gets pretty easy.

I have zero cravings for sweets or bread.

I do have cravings for junk food like McDouble and Pizza. But I fight off the urge.

I have gone low carb mainly because I have developed an intolerance to wheat products. The siding effect is I am losing a lot of weight. I am hoping to reach 200lbs by end of June.

You can eyeball it. I used garlic powder because I didn't have and fresh on hand. 1 boneless chix breast will make one crust, so...what's 1 chicken breast? 8-12oz?

Depends on what mutant chicken you happen to get a breast off.

I've seen ones weigh as little as 6-8oz and some that weigh 16oz+.

Low carb or no carb? Tomato sauce has carbs.

I lost 85 lbs 3 years ago doing a low carb diet. I gained some back, but I'm back on my low carb thing again and it's coming off pretty quickly.

Home made pizza sauce would have a very small amount of net carbs per 1/2 cup serving(and you wouldn't be eating anywhere near 1/2cup serving). The lowest commercially prepared pasta sauce I can find has 3 net carbs but it costs $8.00 per 24oz jar.

Fritzo do you have a good pizza sauce recipe? How about pasta sauce? I haven't been able to find any I like.

I don't have a lot of time to make my own, but there are some excellent standard jarred brands out there that only have 2-3 carbs per tbs. You can use that and eat an entire pizza with only 12 carbs or less. Just look at the label. Pizza sauce differs from spaghetti sauce in that it it has little to no sugar.

The one I got was only like $1.79.

After day 3 is when most people quit due to sugar headaches. Once your body realizes it's finished getting easy calories, the results start and you start feeling better.

Ive only ever seen Ragu and Classico. I guess I'll have to check the labels on them again as its been a while since I used those sauces(long time since I made a homemade pizza).

I buy newmans own pasta sauce as it has 5 net carbs per half cup. Lowest I found at 3 net carbs is Rao's which is the $8/jar brand.

Maybe its not worth the hassle of making my own since there are decently low carb options. Making my own BBQ sauce was more or less worthwhile since the few low carb BBQ sauces out there were terrible

I've 4 weeks in. The first two weeks were a bitch. Since then I haven't had a problem. I make a lot of different things and my diet is much more varied that before. Maybe this recipe will satisfy my pizza cravings. I'll have to try it this week.

I've been reducing my carb intake and decided to make this pizza. I went easy on the sauce and just topped it with pepperoni, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese. It tasted awesome.

Thanks for posting the recipe!

This is the strangest thread.

We make out pizza crust in a bread machine with extra gluten flour. 😱

It's delicious, nobody died, and I lost 30lbs last year. :colbert:

No-carber checking in. Mostly I just eat straight meat, cheese and eggs, and don't do much in the way of prepared dishes like that pizza.

A few things I do to satisfy sweets cravings is sugar-free Jello, and homemade custards. I use Stevia in the custard. It's pretty simple:

1 quart of half-and-half
5-6 large eggs (I usually do 6, I like my custards on the firmer side)
1/3 cup of Stevia in the Raw
Approx. 2-3 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp of almond extract
a sprinkling of powdered cinnamon
fresh grated nutmeg

Put everything together (except nutmeg) in a mixing bowl and blend it up with a stick blender. Pour into an appropriately-sized casserole dish. Grate the nutmeg across the top. Bake at 350F in a roasting pan filled with hot water up the height of the liquid custard in the dish. I usually check it after an hour by poking it with a knife or a toothpick.

I'll sometimes enjoy it with a bit of whipped cream in a can -- that stuff is only like 1g of carbs per 2 Tbsp.

Add a few more eggs to the recipe and exchange the stevia and seasonings for some grated cheese, bacon pieces and maybe even some chunks of broccoli and you got a nice savory quiche without a crust.

My wife is always trying to come up with gluten free pizza crusts, but she is vegan so this one won't fly.
Well, you might be able to replace the chicken strips with these:

But vegan means no cheese too, doesn't it?

I agree, this is crazy. I stay thin by eating a box of Frosted Mini Wheats every week. 🙂

I remember crushing up pork rinds and using them for anything you would use breadcrumbs for lol. Take a chicken breast, coat with egg and double dip it in the pork rinds and fry them up!

Also enjoyed pork rind nachos- cheese, pepperoni and hot sause..YUM!

If you would have eaten the protein crust, you would have lost 60lbs. :colbert:

LOL

I don't think he knows what a ketogenic diet is.

This one guy on the internet named his particular flavor of keto diet, the "Apex Predator Diet".

I like to picture myself as this majestic lion who lies around doing nothing 99% of the time except to occasionally gorge myself on meat.

You also can't do weight training while you're losing weight as your muscles won't grow, and you lost weight a lot slower by cutting calories.

Cut down to 20 carbs a day and you can lose 30 pounds of fat in a month or two, but maintain enough protein to gain muscle mass. The best part is you don't have to count calories 🙂
