Low Benches with my XFX HD 4890

have you tried a new windows install?

those winrar benches seem low, my unlocked 720BE gets 2600kb/s at 3.6ghz, heck even my 9850BE @ 3.3 gets 2200kb/sec
If you have another HDD try installing another windows, see if that helps with any of the CPU related performance issues.

Ok I will check the shaders and ROPS tonight.

And for the Winrar speed, well i got 2 new Seagates 7002.12 500GB

and I formated a 60gb partition on 1 of them and installed a fresh Vista install with SP1

***********

My original tests were with the 2 drives in raid0 on a 60gb partition
and the benchmark scores were not any better.

Well I only get 14139 at stock settings and 16929 with the cpu oc'd to 3.4 and the gpu at 950/1025. Even though it benches lower than my previous sli setup in game play is way better.

Your memory timings seems too high, the Core architecture loves low latencies because of its MCH technology, with my old QX6850 which is basically a Q6600 G0 unlocked, at 3.60GHz I used to score 2,400kb/s with WinRaR 3.80, my RAM was running at 1,066GHz with 5-5-5-13 timings, try to lower your latency and do some RAM tests to ensure that your system will be stable afterwards, 5-7-7-21 timings is just too high for DDR2 and will affect considerably your system performance overall.

Oh sorry my current mem timings are: 5-5-5-16

are those better? or they have to be tighter?

I will try using 4-4-4-12

5-5-5-16 aren't that bad, but if you can try to lower them a bit, but still not the main reason for such low CPU/GPU performance.

Branch prediction on the Core arch is great; there's no reason to bother with going below 5-5-5-18. You get at most 2-3% better performance, usually 1-2%. IE not worth it IMO.

I confirmed at these timings 4-4-4-12 the speed has to be lowered to 400Mhz

and I saw no increase at all in the benchmarks.

Oh yeah I also confirmed the Rops = 16 and shaders = 800
so that too is ok.

:frown:

PAPADOC I'm having the exact same problem with mine xfx hd 4890. I tryed everything just like you but it didnt work out. So I just RMA. Hope that works, but if u find any solution please contact me > ssady182@hotmail.com <

oh and my system is:
Q9550 2.8ghz @ 3.82ghz
4gb Corsair 1066 ddr2 Dual Channel
500gb samsung sata 2
mobo >ga-ep45-ud3l
XFX HD 4890
550W psu Corsair (no problems)

Hello,

I just started testing the waters with my new HD 4890, but the scores seem low I am guessing my CPU is the bottleneck but need to know for sure.

So i have the 2 new Seagate 500gb's in Raid0
I have a Q6600 clocked at 3.78Ghz
and 2GB of Patriot Ram running at 1008Mhz DDR
The clocks on the HD4890 are at stock.

Hence in 3DMark06 I only get a score of : 14444 points

I had already upgraded my PSU

it's a corsair TX750 watts, I got this because it has 1 x 12v rail with 60 frigging Amps giving out 720 od the watts.
Isn't this enough?
But in the past when I used to bench with my old antec 500watts
the benches would crash they would not complete.
with the corsair PSU my 3DMark06 test actually finishes

So I don't get it

what's up with DAT?

:disgust:

Uhh... if you running vista like your sig says with only 2 gig's wouldn't your hard drive being thrashed a bit more than if you were 4GB+ thus a performance loss?

have the exact same problem with my XFX HD 4890. scored around 12200 in 3dmark06, while with my previous hd 4870 the score was 13100 and 11700 with hd 4850. Vanage shows the same thing. gpu score for hd 4890 is 7800, hd 4870 - 9000, hd 4850 - 6800
the cpu is e8400 at 3.0
there is something wrong with these cards, imho

UR ALL DUMB he needs more fucking RAM and why do u need to test that rigd benchmark bull shit. it seems like bottle neck because lets say. your playing crysis it cant process the game quick enough i have 4gb 1066 rame and play crysis fine how ever. i had 2gb ram and it did bottleneck because off it. but i got 4gb RAM now and 2 XFX hd4890 extreme editions and its fucking brilliant

and that CPU is awesome theirs no bottle neck if you get more RAM i bet you will see a HUGE!! performance boost. and you will have the card running properly. what im saying is if you have 2gb RAM a game cant go TROUGH it quick it just goes in small quantities. but lets say you have 8GB RAM. you just loaded the game straight into the RAM and to the graphics card.

P.S im only 14 and know so much lol

AND i just relised UR USING DDR OMFG!!!! THAT SHIT IS OLD SCHOOL FUCKING HELL AND U SOME HOW HAVE A DDR MOTHERBOARD WITH A PCI-E 2.0 OMFG LOL

Enough with the excessive and immature profanity please.

There really should be some kind of verifiable age check to join these forums.

And its DDR2..? If I'm not mistaken.

The game I play 90% of the time is online chess, and that doesn't required a hd4890

😀

Wha...? Why...? You spent all that money just to bench it on outdated software? Are you insane or just made of money?

That sounds like something Rollo would do.

Yeah I HAZ A BEAST
you think you are cool with you're big talk idiot.

I am using DDR2 , and everyone knows adding more of anything will boost performance genius.

And at least I am not using a crappy 80GB IDE hard drive lol.
