Low 3dMark2000 Scores on 32MB DDR Radeon

I recently built a new system (described below) and my 3dmark2000 scores are a little low. I get 1200 when I don't overclock the video card and 1310 when I do (to 183/183). What settings should I use (video and 3dmark)? Here's my system:

Duron700@950, 1.85v FOP32-1 on an Abit KT7
128MB PC133 (Infineon chips)
Radeon 32MB DDR retail (w/ standard fan)
SB Live Platinum x/ live drive 1
Creative DVD
Sony CD-R/RW
WD 20.5 GB HD ATA66 7200RPM
2 10/100 Nics (Linksys and an Asante)
300W PS (PP303x)
all this inside the Antec KS282

I know I should be getting much higher results. I am using the latest non beta drivers for all devices along with DX7.0a. I am thinking I screwed up the VIA 4-1 installation. If I were to update the 4-1 drivers, what is the correct method? On a side note, I get average Q3 scores. Don't remember exactly what they are, but they aren't abnormally low.

Thanks for any help.

edit: changed the title...

Is there a magic formula to updating the 4-1's? Like installing/unistalling drivers? Thanks.

I did install the 4in1's when installing windows, but I only installed the ones that were on the cd (4.23 I believe). So basically I need to update to the 4.25 (or 4.25). Hopefully that is the issue.

Are you running Windows 2000? If so, don't be surpriced to see much lower than expected 3Dmarks score; 3Dmark2K is one of the few newer Direct3D programs which run horribly under Win2K.

Sorry, forgot about the all important OS. Running Win98SE. What are the common settings used when benchmarking with 3dmark. I haven't used it in along time (well since 3dmark99). Should I use the D3D T&L optimization, the Athlon optimization, other? What is the typical resulution 3dmark is run at... Thanks again

Freeze,

as for 3dmark2k: take the settings that 3dmark itself recommends (1024x768x16bit). It should be D3D Hardware T&L 'cause the Radeon has a T&L unit like the Geforce series. If I'm mistaken, correct me guys!

ok, the gerenal consensus is that I need to reinstall the 4-1 drivers (Should I use the 4.24 or the leaked 4.25?). Is there any thing else that might be causing this? I am going to reinstall the drivers as soon as I get home tonight... Thanks

I think there is something deeper than just a radeon driver issue. I mean, my 3dmark scores are at least 25% of what a comparible system is. That's why I am leaning towards the 4in1 drivers. I ahve heard that performance drops significantly if not installed correctly... I am going to try that tonight. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks for the links. I will certainly check them out after I try the Via drivers.

there's no trick to installing them..just click on setup and it autodetects what you need. However I have heard of the setup not installing everything so some people install each part of the 4-in-1 seperatly. you could try that

repeat : 3Dmark is crap , 3Dmark is crap , 3Dmark is crap , 3Dmark is crap , 3Dmark is crap !!!!!!!!!!!
WTF are you playing around with this thing i mean it's very good as a tech demo but it is also total crap as a bench , go play some games with your radeon , you're gonna run them nearly as fast as the best nvidia boards out there!!!!
now can someone tell me how to oc my radeon cause powerstrip will oc the memory but not the core.

3dmark may be crap, but it helped me find a problem that I didn't notice under Q3... I reinstalled the latest 4in1s and I am now getting 4700 under the default settings.

That score was at a default spped/core too. yes i know of that site, i tweaked out the memory so far... I am getting 90FPS in Q3 demo1, all settings at max, 32bit colr, textures, max geom, 800x600. oh, also oc'ed the radeon to 175/175 so far. :) I'll check out that site for more tweaks, unless someone knows of some specific ones. :) thanks guys. this is much better. the strabge thing about this whole experience is that I was getting similar results for Q3 before reinstalling the AGP gart. oh well, it's all better now.

Check out Rage3D.com

Homer Simpson has a nice little proggie that will enable/disable various Radeon features.

I currently have a Retail 64 DDR oc'd to 211 and my high 3dmark is ~5600. The only tweaks I've done is disabled everything in my startup except systray and enabled HyperZ. Oh of course I have an overclocked Duron.

Currently I hold the highest Duron Radeon scores in both 16 bit and 32 bit.
