Charay,

I'm curious. Do you not have any real life friends to whom you can turn for advice on an issue as important as this?

I met my current girlfriend in Kentucky this past MEmorial Day weekend. Starting talking to her a lot on Yahoo and one thing led to another. We've spent a couple long weekends together when we can and she occasionally tags along on my business trips. We currently live over 9 hours apart. These things can work out but only if you bothare willing to put in the time, effort, and understanding. One thing to note though is that she is moving up here next summer.

long distance relationships are bad. Why can't you find someone around where you live? Don't go to chatrooms for love, that is no good. There are no emotions with instant messanging. If it doesn't work out you'll lose money and time and some poignant memories... but at least it'll teach you a lesson. Ad astra per aspera

People are NEVER like they are online. Personallities can be a complete 180 from online interaction. Phone calls help you understand them better but fact is you don't really know her.

rahvin...

I'd beg to differ. My best friend, closest confidant, & (most likely) future wife is someone that lives across the country from me. Met initially by happenstance via e-mail, then moved to phone calls. This summer I flew out & spent a week with her & her family. It was exactly like we expected. Other than the two minutes of "OMFG I can't believe they're really here" that are practically inevitable, it was like we'd been around each other forever.

How well you know somone depends not on the distance, but on the time & effort invested in the relationship, & the honesty of the parties involved.
