love Soundgarden, mostly hate Audioslave

Hey y'all

wtf is up with Audioslave?

First, I love Soundgarden. Superunknown is one of my all-time favorite albums.

But Audioslave is like Elton John... 2 good songs and thousands of pieces of $#it. ... they sound like #$%ing Van Halen. it's awful.
except for like 1 or 2 songs (I like Light my Way)

And it's not really b/c I don't like the Rage sound... I do like the one song Rage Against the Machine's ever wrote ;)

Yes, Soundgarden>Audioslave

The former can be considered a pretty major force in changing musical style. The latter is some guys that got together because they thought it'd sound cool and made some ok but not groundbreaking music. I liked probably about half of Audioslave's first album and basically didn't even care about them after that. It was a big letdown, as people were expecting something more hard edged and meaningful, but instead we got a lot more lighter/mellow stuff.

I don't feel they sound like Van Halen but its not something that really crossed my mind before. Of course, I don't see it being a bad thing if they did. Elton John had quite a few pretty good songs, although I'm not a particularly huge fan of his music myself (there's maybe 3 that I really like).

i also agree.

in fact, before i knew who audioslave was, i just grouped them in with nickelback and all their equally shitty soundalike bands.

I liked a bunch of the audioslave stuff. It kind of grew on me. Audioslave's first album was definitely the best but the other 2 were good. I agree that Soundgarden was better. If y'all are Chris Cornell fans you should check out his solo stuff. His solo stuff is by far the best work he has done.

cornell's solo work isn't bad, but definitely not the quality of soundgarden IMO (especially superunknown, arguably their best album). i do like his solo stuff, even the newer more R&B(?) styled stuff.

I mostly don't care for Soundgarden and I've liked about half the Audioslave stuff I've heard. Audioslave edges out Soundgarden in my case.

I'm not sure what to call the new album either? Scream was a disapointment for me after Carry On.

chris cornell's work with audioslave definately leaves a lot to be desired. he sounds less like himself and more like this new generation of angsty overly-strained voices trying desperately to immitate the 90's alt/grunge icons (chris cornell ironically being one of them himself).

He'll never recapture the passion of his former self from soundgarden ever again. I don't think his voice can take it anymore. Audioslave is a like a bad cover band.. you want to like the material but you can't.

*queues up slaves and bulldozers to wash audioslave out of mind*

I put Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Cornell's first solo CD in the "awesome" category.

Audioslave, I liked a few of the songs. Meh.

You could be right about his voice, but I think it's the writing much more than his performance.

I think you're right about his writing but most certainly the performance suffers more in my opinion.

I agree with the OP, I never understood the appeal of Audioslave, I did not like them at all.

I remember finding Louder Than Love on tape and just playing it over and over and over; such a great album.

Yeah, it's awesome! I haven't listened to it in a while, but some of the songs on there are classic (Loud Love, Big Dumb Sex).

I liked both...Soundgarden is better but I still loved Audioslave, not so much the third album but the first two were awesome

Carry on was average and Scream sucked

Cornell = God
