"HK, do you know what love is?"
HK-47: "Answer: Many organic meatbags find that question difficult to answer, Master, but I believe I can provide you with a satisfactory definition."
HK-47: "Definition: "Love" is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope."
"There's a certain lethal charm in such a shot, I agree."
HK-47: "Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds."
HK-47: "Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and strangely enough, not many meatbags would derive love from it."
HK-47: "Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targetting reticule, and together, achieving a singular purpose... against statistically long odds."

Elaborate ... sacrifice, in and of itself, or the willingness to sacrifice - the desire to sacrifice for the purpose of enriching the lives of others?

Thoughts?

it looks like you are referring to the passage in the bible that says:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

perhaps we should adopt a system more similar to the ancient greeks, that distinguishes between different types of love. for example, the following words are used:

1) agape - pure, ideal, unconditional love
2) eros - romantic, sensual, passionate love
3) philia - brotherly love; love towards friends and family
4) storge - natural affection
5) xenia - hospitality

in the english, all of these words are translated as 'love'. in the biblical passage, st. paul is only describing 'agape' love.
