Lousy Spyware/crapware PopUp Ad rant

Today I set up a new user profile in WinXP.

I logged into my www.mail.com free email address, and Pop-Up Stopper failed to block a full-screen ad from showing up. Usually, Pop-Up Stopper is pretty good, but it failed miserably on this one. Anyway, the ad is full-screen, and says "Press ENTER to continue." I try to remember how to get rid of a full-screen window, but don't remember Since I was in a hurry, and half asleep, I hit ENTER and it went away. A second later, I think to myself, "Hmmm..hope that didn't do anything bad." I finish checking my email and turn off the PC.

Now, I just booted up, opened up Internet Explorer, and a #*$&#$&# Spyware ad has hijacked my homepage. My DVD drive tray ejects, and the #*&$*#(@#$&(*#%& POS ad tells me that if my CDROM tray has ejected, my PC is vulnerable to spyware and I should immediately go download their *#&$*#&* POS product.

Then Notepad opens up with a similar message, saying that if I saw Notepad open up with this message, I should immediately download their craptacular POS.

Hell is not hot enough for the Fvcktards who program this $hit. :|:|:|

Morale of the story: Mail.com = A$$hats - I'm moving my account.

"Full motion commercials:
"Beginning tomorrow, more than a dozen Web sites, including MSN, ESPN, Lycos and iVillage, will run full-motion video commercials from Pepsi, AT&T, Honda, Vonage and Warner Brothers, in a six-week test that some analysts and online executives say could herald the start of a new era of Internet advertising." Unicast, the company responsible, says the ads will play regardless of pop-up blocking. "The only format that loads completely before it is allowed to play, the Full Screen Superstitial is guaranteed to play perfectly for every consumer, every time."

Even if it's a lie, I'd love to just once hear a story that someone went to one of these places and beat the sh!t out of the people who are responsible for these things....

Seriously though, maybe it's time for state attorneys general to hammer these guys for extortion.

Ya, spyware spammers are society's modern day pariahs. However, there is still a good majority of peeps in the country that don't even know how to turn on a box, let alone know about the frustration we feel in this situations.

We all have our crosses to bear.

Disable JavaScript or Flash for especially annoying sights I guess... not sure the impact though, haven't had to resort to that yet.

Firebird. Proxomitron. Keep up the fight :)

You don't have to take the crap that these companies keep spewing. Fortunately, for every irritating idea they come up with, there's a whole internet community out there dedicated to undoing their work. Look around.

Unicast will be in for a surprise when things don't go as planned. If they do somehow pull this off...:|

I bet it won't play on my system.

Amen. I don't even see popup or flash ads anymore. Firebird with the flash-click-to-play plugin and a good hosts file cuts out most of the crap.
