Sleep is very important and if you continually don't get enough then it will eventually catch up to you. You will get loss of memory and health problems if you ignore it too long.

Cheap Windows Mobile pocket PC (get one off of AT FS/FT) + mp3 alarm clock software + speaker system = loud as hell alarm clock with your favorite song(s). There are even "progressive" (not politically) alarm clock programs that increases the volume slowly during the duration of the file, so that you wake up a little more gradually then an immediate full volume blast.

My big problem with waking up is having a pattern. My alarm is always in the same place, so my body has started to learn to turn it off without me really even being conscious. I'm often finding myself having pressed snooze 3 times but not remembering it at all. When this happens, I start putting my alarm (my phone) in different places. Left side of the bed, right side of the bed, lower shelf of the night stand, etc. The difference in placement makes me use a little bit of brain power, which helps waking up a lot.

This is what I do. I use the alarm on my cellphone and hide it random places so I have to get out of bed and remember where I put the damn thing to turn it off :p By the time I find it I'm pretty much wide awake.

Find the circuitry inside an alarm clock that makes the alarm go on, hook it up to a relay that will make an air compressor start up and fill a balloon with air, and also have it power a 10000w of flood lights.

That should wake you up. The compressor kicking on, the balloon eventually poping, and all that light. I've seriously thought of rigging up something like this since I sometimes sleep through my alarm.

That one. There's another clock I've seen, that has a heli-gyro blade that takes off, and the alarm won't shut off til you get up, find the propeller, and put it back on the base.

I think the simplest solution (other than getting more sleep) is to just put the clock across the room instead of right next to the bed so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. I have a hard time getting up but I've never tried this, I just sleep in and miss class/show up late for work.

I wonder if you could get an IV drip with caffeine in it to start when you need to wake up.

Next best thing is autodrip set on timer in your room. Coffee aroma wakes me up stat.
Works great in conjunction with laptop/pocket pc mp3 alarm clock like I mentioned above. Coffee and favorite songs = awesome way to wake up.

Bread makers make great alarm clock, the smell will wake you up instantly you will be so hungry. But you can't really use it everyday unless you really like bread.
