Loud PC while gamingand videos, need help

Okay so the good news is my temps look good.

3 Case fans all Yates

1 Noctua on the CPU.

My loudest part is my Corsair 550VX, anyway to keep it quiet. My guess is when I game, it's taxing the PSU big time so the FAN spins up faster. Since the case is smaller, I know that it traps heat. My issue is not the heat it more how loud the PSU get while I watch videos and game.

Any Idea's on keeping the PSU quiet?
 
System specs?

A fan gets loud because the load is high. If this is bothersome you may need to swap out with a 750TX.
 
yea the best way i found to eliminate PSU noise is to just toss a higher wattage PSU in. running a 750w in my main rig may seem overkill even with an overclocked quad and a single GPU card (7900GT SC to 2900PRO 1GB to 9800GTX 512mb, take your pick), but it sure is a good way to make the PSU last longer and stay quiet on hot days
 
Thanks, I'll be looking into a higher PSU in a few months. My hard drive is a first gen Sata and it's scores like a 3 in Windows 7 performance so I'm going to upgrade my HD then PSU. Anyone have a recommendation on the PSU?

We cant recomend you a psu unless we know what its intended on powering.

I don't get it. The case at newegg comes stock with a Seasonic 550HT. Am I missing something here? Why did you replace it with the Corsair 550VX? Did you get the case somewhere without the bundled Seasonic?

Despite some good points for some Lian-Li cases, I'm not that fond of your mid-tower. It has 1x120mm intake, and 1x120mm exhaust. I think I'd like to see a second 120mm intake . . . . somewhere.

I have enough pressure inside my cases that air is forced through the PSU no matter what, and I never have a problem with fan-noise. . . .

Are you interested in modding that case? With another fan-hole where it might count for something?

Might be a good idea. Test to see if the same thing happens with the side of the case open, to check if it's specifically PSU load or PSU temperature. High ambient case temps can make a PSU fan ramp up all by itself.
 
The PSU was very quiet when I had my x850xt installed. Temp are a little higher with the 4870. My case is an older one and did not have a seasonic installed. I would not have purchased a new PSU if I had a seasonic.....

Might be a good idea. Test to see if the same thing happens with the side of the case open, to check if it's specifically PSU load or PSU temperature. High ambient case temps can make a PSU fan ramp up all by itself.

I would mod but I suck at cutting! I would like to add a blow hole but again I sucks at modding lol.

Did you read at the top of my post that I check if the card was making all the fan noise and it is NOT making the noise. What I did was enable the ATI overclock in the CCC and turned the fan on high and then turned it all the way down so i can not hear the fan on load. That is when I discovered the PSU fan is loud. I have a vapor-x gpu which are quiet and very cool.

I will be testing if the PSU gets quiet with the side off and use a fan to blow air on the PSU with the case open. Let you know my results.

I don't just stake claims with out doing a few test myself before hand but if I need a 750wt PSU then I guess I'll have to purchase one. Sucks because I just purchased the corsiar 2 months back.

Anyone know if I'm putting to much power from my PSU?
 
No, actually, sorry, I missed that part about the fan test.

And, as far as power draw, this PSU is plenty for your rig.

If the fan is abnormally loud we can try replacing it if you like.

It seems that for the past few years, my intention to get a PSU that is just modestly in excess of my peak wattage draw has still led to overcalculation. I tend to use the exaggerating Xtreme Outervision calculator and pck something maybe 35W in excess of what it returns, but I might have chosen PSUs with sustained peak outputs of 100W less.

The key thing: get something that has good benchtest reviews for voltage stability, AC ripple and other features, and get something that has the highest "80+" efficiency rating. The more efficient, the cooler it stays, and the less likely that the fan will spin up.

Put very well. I look into purchasing a new PSU later in the year. Will just have to live with it for now.

It did not help with the side off. Didn't test the fan blowing on the psu.


 
As a last resort test to make sure it's the PSU, with the computer off, stick something like a popsicle stick or something else non-conductive into the PSU to keep the fan from starting, then start up your computer. If the sound is gone, then bingo, for sure it's the PSU.

Hate for you to save up money, buy a new PSU and then find out it was something else.

Possibilities include hard drives, optical drives, etc.

If it is definitely the PSU, get in contact with corsair support, it'd be a lot cheaper to RMA your existing PSU (which should be fine for your system) then buying a new one. They may even send you just a replacement fan, Silverstone did that for me a few years back.
