can i replace them with good heatsinks or quieter fans (radeon 8500 & epox 8kha+)? all 5 of the other case fans in my case are panaflos (also, psu and heatsink are panaflos), so it's pretty darn quiet with the barracuda.

hey dolph,

i had a similar problem with my northbridge fans on both my old ga-7dx and my current ak31a. the general consensus is that this fan is not really necessary if ur not going to overclock as long as u have decent air flow through ur case. as for the video card, while i can't personally relate, people have reported swapping their heat sink and fan with a blue orb. u may want to look into that.

hope this helps.

I have an ASUS A7V266-E, which uses the VIA KT266A northbridge. It appears that about half of the KT266A mobos use fans on the KT266A, and the other half use heat sinks.

Does anyone know where I can get a heat sink to replace the northbridge fan that will work with the mounting holes currently used by the ASUS fan? The heat sinks I've seen for the MSI mobo (which is a piece of junk, IMNSHO) don't match the ASUS.

You can always disconnect the fan on your 8500 and place a Panaflo 80mm right in front of it.

My Gigabyte KT266A board has no fan on the chipset. Runs at 35 deg. C.

Should be ok :)

Zalman have some northbridge heatsinks...
