Loud CPU fan, Help!

I am running a P4 2.4AGHz (533 FSB) with Intel heatsink and fan that came with the cpu, on an ECS 848P-A motherboard. On a hot day, the CPU fan speeds up and gets REALLY loud. I've already gone into the bios settings and disabled the target temperature and shutdown temperature features under pc health status.

What can I do to stop the fan from speeding up (and getting really loud) whenever the temperature rises? Would a more quiet CPU fan be the only solution? Is this a motherboard issue? All responses will be appreciated. Thanks.

Either get a quieter fan or go for passive coolling. Many sites compare fans and their noise levels. Search Google.

yeah, the stock intel fans that came with those cpu's was pretty loud. Get a decent heatsink and you can put a quieter fan on it. And just a side note, a 2.4a is a 400mhz FSB cpu, 2.4b is a 533mhz FSB.

Go back into the BIOS and turn those back on.

The fan is doing what it is supposed to do. It speeds up as the CPU gets warmer, this is normal.

You can find a quieter fan, but they are supposed to run faster as the temperature rises. This allows them to be nearly silent at idle when the CPU isn't very warm.

2.4A is probably a 533mhz bus Prescott, Stevety.
