I just installed my 8800gs into my computer and when I turned on the computer I heard a LOUD BEEP comming from inside. WTF is going on. I read the manual that EVGA sent me and it says that if I hear a loud beep it could mean 3 things.

1. vid card not properly put in place
2. bad mother board
3. bad video card

I took out the vid card and re-insert it and I still hear the beep. I took it out again and reinster it and still hear a beep. Now WTF is going on. I followed the instructors perfectly clear when I made a previous post asking for the vid card installation guide.

Here is what I did.

-open computer case
-inserted vid card
-turn on computer
-i hear a loud beep

I only did 4 of those things, nothing else.

edit: the beep sound is high pitch and it is continuous. it is also very loud. so it's a high ptich continuous loud beep :(

Did you attach the extra power connector(s) to the back of the card?

The card may be dead on arrival (DOA).

No I didn't. Do I have to? In the manual it says to only plug in the extra power connectors if you have "supplement power supply". I don't know what that means, so I didn't plug anything into my vid card.

Check for a dedicated power connection first, if it needs one, then try re-seating the card a few times. It is possible you received a dead card, which can be replaced by whomever you ordered it from.

I just checked my evga 8800gs and I couldn't find anything on it that looks like I can connect those wires into it for a dedicated power connection.

That would be because it doesn't need any additional power that the pci-e slot doesn't provide, I guess try reseating it a couple times, if that doesn't work you may have a dead card.

Try reseating your System Ram. Sometimes the pressure of inserting cards causes the ram to lose contact.

I just looked all over my computer and I can't find anything that looks like the 4 Pin Molex Connector.

It should be running out of your power supply, not sure how many molex you're getting from that psu though.

That PSU may not even run it. It's actually a 350watt psu. I'm amazed you were stable even before you got the 8800gs.

It's only got 180watts on the 12v line, that's about half of what a modern PSU needs. If you are stable, awesome, but the next upgrade you should be looking at is a better power supply.

And yes most people say remove the driver... I've never had problems leaving them on myself, but enough people say to do it that I'm sure some others must have had some issues.

right click on desktop, nvidia control panel, adjust desktop color settings
You can raise brightness there.
