"Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network, two network employees said.

A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his plans on his 7 p.m. program.

Mr. Dobbs informed his staff members of his intentions in a meeting Wednesday afternoon. He did not immediately respond to a telephone call seeking comment.

Well known for his political positions, Mr. Dobbs is an outlier at CNN, which has sought to position itself as a middle ground of sorts in the fractious cable news arena. Perhaps hinting at plans for an exit from CNN, Mr. Dobbs met with Roger Ailes, the chairman of the Fox News Channel, last month. At the time Mr. Dobbs was viewed as a potential hire for the Fox Business Network."

Not a big surprise he is negotiating with Fox.
Hopefully they replace him with a undocumented anchor.

I can see him trying to get the big bucks but moving over to Fox will negate any credibility he may have dhad.

Always felt he was a racist douche bag even before he started to get really loud about the issue on CNN. Can't stand the guy.

He is anti ILLEGAL immigration. But, I have never heard him say anything against legal immigration. His wife is Hispanic by the way

there's no way CNN would have let him out of his contract if he were going to be moving to a rival network.

Wasn't there some talk that Dobbs himself was actually born in mexico?

Anyway, good riddance. He's an ass. Maybe now he'll have more time to defend his home from those illegals that are always shooting at it ... or the hunters in the woods right next to it.

Yeah,
unless he jumped the fence, I don't see how that is at-all relevant.

Why do people confuse illegal and legal immigration? I'm an immigrant myself - waited 5 years and countless hours of paperwork to get sworn in in 2008. Even sidestepping the enormous issue of failing public policy and the associated costs of illegals, what kind of message are you sending to all the people waiting with for/with a green card?

This revelation still won't make me watch cable news. When they are all hot models and delivering the news topless, then we can talk...

There is a news show like that. Google it.

Dobbs was alright in the early days at CNN when he was basically a news reader. He came across as a poor man's Walter Chronkite. But he gradually lost all credibility with me as he obsession with illegal immigration rose. These days he's pretty unwatchable. He's 90% commentary and a one-trick pony at that-you know what's he's going to say before it comes out.

I'd be surprised if Dobbs can just hop over to Fox. I would think essentially all on screen talent have noncompete clauses in their contracts, and he will have to cool his heels for a while.

The people on MSNBC Morning Joe were speculating Dobbs would run for office. Why not, Pat Paulsen did.

Hopefully he doesn't go further off the deep end like Glen Beck did with his move from CNN to Fox.

All in all I think these guys model their careers on WWF stars as opposed to real journalists. It's all about having an identificable (individual) brand to market.

I always wondered when he would make the jump. IMHO, CNN should try to keep him...

There are plenty of Lou Dobbs shows where he does not mention anything on illegal immigration. I love how people who don't watch a show on a regular basis say it is a certain way. He is pretty even handed with his bashing of both parties

Wouldn't Fox demand that he stop talking about foreign outsourcing, H-1B and L-1 visas, and mass legal immigration and illegal immigration? (The Republicans seem to support mass immigration as evidenced by Bush's support of illegal alien amnesty.)

The Naked News! Unfortunately, last I checked, it's almost like normal porn since you cannot watch it for free and have to pay for it, which sucks. It's too bad that it isn't on cable (on a movie channel or a free channel).

I once watched their review of Unreal Tournament 3 and laughed as hot naked chicks reviewed the game.

I channel surf through Dobbs show several times a week. I usually last to the point where he gets a digusted smirk on his face, turns to his co-host and starts ranting about either illegal immigration or government waste. Generally speaking I'm there three minutes tops.

If I want to watch the same old thing every night I'll look up reruns of Three's Company or Gilligan's Isle.

Gustavo Arellano, the incendiary columnist better known as Ask A Mexican can hardly wait to jump on this story. His fear and hatred of Lou Dobbs is similar to the reaction some liberals have to Sarah Palin.

People from Fox deny that he's coming over, there seems to be some conflicting info out there.

He ought to run for office, get defeated and then go away.

That's too bad. I really like listening to him on my way home from work. He was the best CNN had to offer.

it would literally blow my mind if CNN let him out of his contract to defect to a rival network.

I have a hard time believing Fox has any place for him in their lineup. I think he would fit in much better at MSNBC right after Chris and just before Keith.
