Lotus Extrema

Man you'd need balls of steel to drive this thing. I think the LS7 version would be enough for me though.

The UK Garage (based in... Italy) and its Lotus Extrema has taken Colin Chapman's philosophy to a level the old man never could have imagined. Built atop a Mark I Exige, UK Garage widened the track, stretched the wheelbase and created a custom Mark II body kit to fit more rubber and make room for a range of mid-mounted engines.

On the low end of the spectrum, customers can equip their Extrema with a GM-sourced, turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 putting out 350 hp and tipping the scales at just over 1,800 pounds. A Superlight variant is also available, weighing in at 1,650 pounds and equipped with either a 2.6- or 3.4-liter V8, producing 360 or 450 hp, respectively. For those who want to go full (big) bore, the Extrema can be had with almost any GM-supplied V8, ranging from two LS3s producing either 420 or 500 hp, the 520-hp LS7 or the Corvette ZR1's 638-hp, supercharged LS9. With only 2,138 pounds to motivate, the range-topping Extrema is claimed to hit 60 in 2.9 seconds, blow through the 100 mph mark in under seven seconds and on to a top speed of 200 mph.

In addition to the engine upgrades, UK Garage can equip any model with a manual or sequential transmission, along with an Ohlins suspension, four-piston AP Racing brakes, roll cage and other safety systems. Both race-ready and road-legal versions are available with prices starting at ?66,000.

As far as never been produced, never will be produced vehicles, I can think of a few other pieces of vaporware I'd prefer to have. 🙂

Did you catch the photochoped extrema logo on the door?

What's missing in this pic?

http://www.autoblog.com/photos...tus-extrema-1/1318072/

Info about this came out a couple years ago on Lotus Talk. Since then, there's been nothing. No cars, no tests, not even any engine pictures.

Here's some info:

Car on the photo was photographed in Hethel at the Lotus factory around 2002 during an open day.

Photo's published on the web at that time showed the car still partially covered and much speculation was going around abouth it being the S2 Exige design (by that time still 3 years away..)

Lotus then tightened the ban on photo camera's on the site and later stated that the car was not the Exige mule or design study, but a custom car built by Lotus Motorsport for a customer. A bit like the Exige 300RR they did later for the Malaysian racing driver.

I'm not saying that this company won't do a V8 exige, but the car in the pictures was made by Lotus and the photo's are about 6 to 7 years old already.

Yeah, we just made the car longer and wider. No problems.

They must shoe-horn the engine in.

I just hope that it has retained the Elise handling.

Oh well, may be one day...

LSx engines are very compact.

Yes, LSx motors are fairly light compared to a lot of their competition, but it's still a hell of a lot heavier than the stock drivetrain.

An LS7 weighs about 450 lbs without the transmission, with, I am guessing around 600 pounds.

The stock lotus motor is around 250 lbs, big difference.

The internet needs to get over this LSx = god theory.

For example, the mercedes 6.2 AMG V8 weighs less (438 lbs) and is a DOHC engine. The old 5.5 AMG Supercharged V8 was around 480 lbs in SOHC form. Pretty close numbers considering the LSx motors are OHV which should save them some weight. The LS9 is probably even heavier with all the added FI parts bolted on.

Please, don't think I am dissing any LSx engine, just making a point.

dude it's dumbfucks like you arguing over something that doesn't matter to them as they'd never be in the market for one.

*laugh* that the LS9 is heavier due to forced induction....

in reality the LSx engines are back heavy more than many of the powerplants they replace. so it does make them better overall.

I don't know where the fuck AMG engines come into play....the reason you don't see things like that is cost. The LSx setup is usually extremely cheap to equal power to weight powerplants.

you are dissing...
