I...have....driven....THAT....machine. although its a crime to even call it a machine...its so so much more. I am only 21 but I some day plan on owning the elise. I have gone skydiving, base jumping, some serious downhill mountain biking but no adreneline rush compares to the one I had in the elise. Seriously people, if you can afford it, and if you can treat it better than you treat your wife/gf/family/friends...then go buy this car. and the last i heard it was 36k...but i guess the price went up? or was i misinformed?

"3) No automatic? Only stick!"

...come here tec699.........::b!tch slap::...i know you said you dont know much about cars....but still....

Priced out (we did this at work one day), it's about $42k or so.. but that's with a bunch of useless options.

IMO, the elise is awesome, but I'm not a huge fan of the styling.

i just checked up on the website...the msrp is about 43...with the sports package and some nice paint its 50ish....so yea its def gone up.

Well, not exactly the most comfortable car for the street

its not meant to be...but if you need it to be you can get the tour or touring package...whatever its called...but even then...yea it cetainly wont feel like a touring car...thats not what its meant for

For a little over $40k the Lotus Elise looks like a sweet deal. IMO, a couple of the drawbacks that I've found with the car are...

1) Why only a 4 cylinder? Seems kinda puny to me. I'm not a car buff so maybe someone could clarify that for me.

2) Compared to a Nissan Z the Lotus Elise just doesn't look that comfortable.

3) No automatic? Only stick!

The car looks like it's worth more than $40k. I'm suprised more people don't drive these cars.

Lotus Elise

Lotus Elise

1. you will be lucky to find it for 40k... its MSRP is 43k not to mention you probably want to pay for leather seats, power windows, and carpers (another 2k) + dealer markup
2. don't see how lack of cargo room is not a drawback
3. if you are complaigning about manual, maybe this car isn't for you
4. this would have to be a recreational car. Most people don't have the kind of money to dump on a 40k (close to 50k) car just for recreation. Sport car wise, you get more space from a vette or boxter

ok class...does anyone know what lotus is MOST famous for???
not max HP or 900 cylinder engines....but rather for being quick and nimble...no porsche or vette can match it in terms of that...

Please kill yourself.

1. look at the curb weight
2. the elise isnt the car to buy if you want a comfortable street car
3. why would you buy any good sports car without a manual?

1. Because the engine bay is tiny, and the car is only 1900 lbs. You need a light, small engine. Yes, the K20A would have been nicer, but they couldn't get Honda to agree.

2. It's not.

3. Correct, it's a driver's car.

I like ^ this guys car a lot better. 😉

i dont think this car was meant to be something to commute in

engine bay is small and it is mid engine. they also have turbo kits by forcedfed that bumps your stock 166hp/120ft lb of torque to 242hp/169ft lb of torque. not bad for power to weight ratio.

my bad, it has air and carpet, although the carpet is just your basic layer of carpet, nothing more.

In Europe, it comes bare (No A/C, or carpet). But to satisfy the people who would complain that it doesn't have those features. The Elise comes standard with the those amneties. But Lotus did up the power to offset the extras.

it's not meant to be luxurious, in any sense. it's meant to give as much performance as possible.

but you can still get a bare bones C6 which will be in the U.S. for a longer time than the elise will be, Lotus wont stay i highly doubt.

barebones C6 = nicer car than the Elise.

MIKE

elise is nice. but in all honesty, id rather pay a bit more and get the base corvette. thats a lot more practical

With the 4-cyl engine and how light the car is, I'd be looking at the gas mileage as a very positive factor of the Elise.

Elise:
23 City - 27 Highway
Vette (M6)
18 City - 28 Highway

engine means nothing, the vette has insane gearing.

914/6.

~120 hp (in 1970), 1,900 pounds, mid-engine, targa top. Kicked the crap out of 911s from that same period. Porsche didn't just match Lotus, they surpassed Lotus.

Not only that, but the 914 started every time and the electrical system worked. 😛

i doubt people in the market for this thing is actually worried about gas mileage
