Was waiting for this.

Great. Your sig has a quote out of context, so you link to an article, which you say is in context, which is out of context.

Read the transcript sometime, and you might figure out that the entire quote was deliberately supposed to be racist. It was sarcasm, Phokus.

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/ho...nt/01125112.guest.html

What about his comment about Donovan McNabb being overrated because the media wanted a good black quarterback?

Dp you agree that the segregated buses quote out of context was foolishness?

That's not the whole transcript, moron, that's Rush Limbaugh using a partial transcript and backtracking and saying it's 'sarcasm' after getting called on it

If you don't think he really meant it, then listen to this segment:

http://andrewsullivan.theatlan...a-vile-racebaiter.html

That's not sarcasm, that's limbaugh being intentionally over the top in order to rile up his listeners.

Okay dude.

Jokus is well...a joke. His Rush "quote" in his sig is laughably taken out of context.

FYI Jokus: Rush's whole segment on "Obama's America" and that bus quote you love to completely take out of context was a satire of the speech Teddy Kennedy gave during Robert Bork's judicial nomination.

Gotta love Jokus saying that the link to the transcript on Rush's site is not the "whole transcript". I listened to that entire show and actually know what was going on, as opposed to just snippets taken horribly out of context on MSNBC. Did you actually listen to the entire segment? Because I did...live, and I know exactly what was said and exactly what was meant.

Also gotta love how he links to a 3rd party source who of course, knows what Rush really said and what Rush really meant better than Rush himself actually does!

This is ridiculous. I have taken the "Limbaugh Challenge" and have actually listened to hours of his program during cross-country drives before I had satellite radio. What I heard was not "one of the best voices talking about first principles and policy in the country today." What I heard was an arrogant blowhard who was obviously reading prepared remarks and seemed to represent some kind of caricature of the ideal far-right conservative (he was almost laughably doctrinaire in that respect, with not one step off the party platform). He only took hand-selected callers and, when the occasional caller made it through the screeners who did anything but fawn over him, he yelled them down and hung up on them.

Rush is pretty blatantly a hypocrit (he called for the deportation of drug addicts while himself being a pill-popping doctor shopper) and manages to be both a bore and a boor. To the extent this Andrew Klavan person says differently, it's either because he's totally undiscriminating, or because he is himself a toady of Rush's.

I mean, let?s face it, we didn?t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I?m not saying we should bring it back; I?m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

Okay dude.

I was listening to Rush that day, and heard the quotes. etc in real time.

If you had listened to him live, vs your excerpt, or reading the quotes, then you would hear the sarcasm in his voice, etc. But that is lost here.

Not saying I agree with him, but on my hour drive to work every day, I catch half an hour of Mike Gallagher, and half an hour of Rush.

And I enjoy listening to them both, and if I question something, I come home and read about it online.

"The average Howard Stern listener listens for 1.5 hours a day."

"What? Why?"

"Answer most commonly given: I want to hear what he'll say next."

"But what about the people who hate him?"

"Ah, people who hate him listen for 2.5 hours a day."

"But if they hate him, then why do they keep listening??"

"Answer most commonly given: I want to hear what he'll say next."

Of course, absolutely no reference in Jokus's post about how Rush's segment exactly mirrored Teddy Kennedy's "Robert Bork's America!" speech, and how he even played the audio of Teddy Kennedy's "Robert Bork's America!" speech before he went off into the satire.

Typical Jokus. Rush owns you and other wacky liberals so bad, it's not even funny; except it is actually really funny because he plays you like a violin. He knows you won't bother to actually check the facts or context before you spout off nonsense you hear from Olbermann.

BTW, I bet you think that him saying "Barack Hussein Obama mmm! mmm! mmm!" is "racist" too, just like MSNBC and CNN does, even though Rush is literally repeating the words from that song those school kids had to sing.

His segments are often 15+ minutes long, and his show is 3 hours long (with commercials). Pulling one quote out of context is like quoting a sentence in a newspaper article without providing the context of the entire page it took up.

/edited out long, nested quotes for sanity's sake :p

Hey I'm asking you guys, you're the Rush Limbaugh experts not me.

His segments are often 15+ minutes long, and his show is 3 hours long (with commercials). Pulling one quote out of context is like quoting a sentence in a newspaper article without providing the context of the entire page it took up.

Nice copout. You're an admitted dittohead, and a lying moron. Think about where your life went wrong.

You may as well save your effort, Ryan.

Yeah, I realize it is a futile effort, but Sclamoz didn't seem like he was trolling (from what I've seen anyway), whereas I am totally ignoring Jokus. I really wish there was a true ignore function on these forums though...would make things a lot better, especially here in P&N. :D

It's cute how the admitted bigot (atreus) and the admitted dittohead (who the hell admits they are a limbaugh fan? That's like admitting you're a flipping retard) are pretending to ignore people because they think they're 'above it all' when in reality they get stumped and intellectually overpowered.

Formula:

<Make argument>
<wait for idiots like atreus and ryanshafted to make idiotic counter arguments>
<present more facts that they get stumped on>
<aforementioned idiots clam up and start 'ignoring' the argument altogether>

like clockwork.

Still no response (gee i wonder why).

This is your hero, Ryan. Have you ever stopped to think about that?

I want to thank you, Jokus. I haven't been listening to Rush lately, but you've inspired me to listen to the entire three hours today.

It's hard not to have listened to him - he dominates the lunch hour on AM radio in most media markets. And he's every bit the disgrace the supposed "distortion mongers" make him out to be.
