I guess this means the rain in Philly won't stop for a few more days. Boo.

its the Great Miami river here: Text

You can see a park in the pics that isn't in the satellite imagery because the park is <2 years old.

Time to move!

Do you live near one of those rivers?

I don't get why such areas prone to flooding are simply rebuilt each time the river overflows, instead of doing something to control the flooding. Does everyone just assume, "Oh....well.... maybe it won't ever do that again."?

Dang. Didn't see this one. Oh well. Suffice to say that it's nice and soggy down here in Bentonville, too.

Because there are various flood stages...you can build on a 1000 year flood stage and chances are it'll never happen within your lifetime so it might be worth the risk and flood insurance might be reasonable.

I live ~.5mi from the river, on top of a huge hill (175-200 ft higher in elevation than the river?). If my house gets flooded, then you know shit has hit the fan.

Based on the last pic.... looks like you had 3 options:

1) Ford the river
2) Load the oxen in your wagon and try to float across the river
3) Go hunting and wait until the current dies down (damn squirrels are fast too!)

Which did you choose?

4.

I opened the car doors for wingage, backed up several hundred feet, and flew over the water at 88mph.
