Seems like the thread has drifted away from concerns about Sun and others for obvious reasons and turned into a why do ppl hate apple thread. If you like apple, why do you care if x86 users dont like it? In addition, I have found that most apple users hate x86 users. Which came first, x86 haters or apple haters? Who cares? Use what works best for you.

Tired of hearing idiots blather on.

<-4xSun machines, 4x x86 machines, 1x PPC machine and considering another, and 1x alpha motherboard/processor

Sorry if my perceived idiocy and blathering made you weary. Looking back at your previous comments it would seem that my opinion of "to each his own" differs little from your own opinions.

Apple Haters came first, since they had the first usable PC. I believe they cost a lot then too, but considering what they were they were probably priced correctly. I think Apple has always had products that have been out of most peoples reach, and have been resented since the dawn of personal computing!

In addition, I have found that most apple users hate x86 users.

I think that you are misinformed about this. Most Mac users are artists types, and I doubt that any of them really care. You would see few on hardware entusiast forums like Anandtech thats for sure. I know quite a few that like to make jokes, but usually they dont care too much about technical details, so comebacks are lost on them. Its more about how much they love their Mac. Loving one thing and not another is different than hating the other, and I think thats generally where the confusion lies. PC enthusiasts are combative by nature. We build are PCs for battle! If its not a competition for pure bragging rights, its for an advantage when when meeting someone in gaming or what not.

So you have PC guys doing whats in their nature, being competitive, and Mac users taking it personal, as if you were insulting their child, and reacting accordingly. Like a soccer mom watching her kid. One problem Apple has is that their customers like their Macs a little too much and hardly upgrade, even though the new G5s are fast. If you look at used Mac prices you'll see that 3-4 year old Macs can still cost more than a new PC. A 2 year old top of the line PC isn't worth much...heck I had to give my last one away to a school because there was no price I could really sell it at.

The two cultures are so different they really shouldn't be compared.

I hate both equally. I just hate windows more than Mac OS X :D

Either way I have both to use, and most people don't realize how decent Mac OS X really is.

Uh yeah. I am obviously bigotted towards the Mac over everything else.

If you are going to claim your computer is the "fastest computer in the world" try not to benchmark it against a completely gimped computer running a different platform.

Look, I can prove this $10 Made in China knife set cuts better than quality German steel knives. Allow me to just wrap the German steel knives in electrical tape and the testing will begin!

You don't know what your talking about. The benchmark was as close as they can get it and it was x86 running Redhat (a Unix-type OS) vs G5 running OS X (another Unix-type OS). Both tests were run using GCC.

That's as fair as it gets, and is better then any other comparisions I've seen out there.

Yeah that must be it, it cant be the 2% market share, misleading ads, and completely proprietary design.

How completely is completely? My mother's G4 tower uses IDE drives (HD and CD-ROM), SDRAM, PCI slots (64-bit!), and USB and LAN. I can use any of those in my old Aptiva.

Completely meaning the Macintosh equivilent of the northbridge (might just be called the north bridge :p).

IBM opened up information on the processors, and PPC was a fairly open design anyways.
OpenFirmware is open.
The ram is of known standards.
PCI is an open standard.
USB is an open standard.
Firewire is pretty open.
AGP is open.

I'm not sure what people expect, beyond someone catering to their wish to build their own.

Is that so wrong to wish for? An ATX or Matx board and an decently priced PowerPC proc(Hell, I'd even settle for a G4 Allthough I like the thought of a G5 better) coupled with ROM-Flashable to Mac vidcards and soundcards and be capable of running OSX would be sweet.

No, but I think it's a pretty dumb reason to dismiss an entire architecture. I build my own x86 pcs, but I enjoy getting platforms (Macintosh, Sun, etc) on occassion.

I do to, But somehow a little much to choke down the $2999 cost for just a tower with a keyboard and mouse I won't even use.

Simple solution? Ignore it, don't buy it. :)

If I could really justify the entry fee to get the Mac I want, I would have no problem kicking my Windows box to the curb like a red-headed step child that it is.

Often there's no point in buying a computer not marketed to you, or me, or many of us, right?
