Vilvo - I sort of understand where you are coming from in the raiding aspect with LoTRO. In other games I have not had good experiences when playing on American servers with Americans in the MMO Raiding/grouping department but the standard of LoTRO player in a group situation was average to poor.

With certain players and groups, some situations were made ever so easy yet other groups made a meal of them. LoTRO does not really have many instant death buttons and only certain areas actually pose a challenge too.

It was certainly fun whilst I played but I find it hard to go back when there does not seem to be a worthy challenge for this Dwarven Champion.

Yeah I'm on brandy.

Funny thing about raiding, it seems that those from the original release and moria are getting somewhat regular action, but the latest exp not so much.

One of the "causes" may be the friendly atmosphere of the game in general where even though there are still "guilds", there are also server wide created user chat channels so you can talk with the world about as easy as within your guild. I've seen many dungeon groups and raids formed quite quickly, but by the same token they probably lack a bit of the hardcore feel.

Finally finished the complete book one and got my new white mount. getting a higher durability horse is sure a nice thing when running through some of the areas they've mega-populated with mobs.

Decided to start playing this again after almost 2 years. Trying to relearn my lvl 28 Champion and not get into a big rush lvling, since that is what burned me out last time. I like that they have made a lot of the quests soloable since the lower lvl zones seem almost empty.

Lupi, I agree about the bag space. I would add that if they could make inventory sortable and have some kind of 'sell all junk to vendor' button it would save a lot of time.

Is it worth lvling prospecting and forestor?

both are leveled on easy stuff that you find, and you'll need to level them to enable gathering of higher level craft raw mats later.

Heh, looks like this is the official unofficial LOTRO thread.

Well, I'm loving the game now. My Warden is 31 and is a blast to play. I main tanked for 2 years in WoW, so the Warden is similar but also complex enough to be fun. I've found many of the players of LOTRO are the type you'd see with @aol email addresses and who think a modem is their PC tower. I've had at least three groups who were completely and utterly shocked that I knew how to hold threat on mobs. They were literally surprised that they didn't die because I knew how to hold 3+ mobs. I think I see why raiding is dead in this game.

Also, skirmishes are a lot of fun. I was feeling like I got ripped off on SoM, but skirmishes make it all worth it. Totally intense.

Lupi, what server are you on? Brandywine?

games like LOTR and FF11 brought in fans that would have otherwise never played a MMO. Funny thing is Wow was the same. Early on when I played it was many older players who were dipping their toes into a MMO because they liked blizzard games going back to the first warcarft. As the hype machine gained momentum the game was overun by Kids and the like that populate the servers now. Dont get me wrong, there are many pockets of resistance with mature players but on the whole its alot of kids grinding for gear, not the experience-as in fun.

I'm at 62 1/3 and all I have left of moria is the foundation of stone (excluding most of the instances which I skipped). Figure I'll be between 63 and 63.5 by the time I emerge for mirkwood. It's a shame they don't have low level crafting instances and such, I'm rolling in so many max tier scholar items. I just make a bunch of scrolls and toss them up in small bunches on the AH for a couple hundred silver and sell a good 75% within the auction time.

One additional bad note about bags/storage, the extra bags at your bank are level tiered. I sent out some money to alts as a cheaper way of getting space and found they were limited to just 1 extra space at their level.

Hit 65 on the LN over the weekend. Only got about half a level in the final moria zone as it was relatively short in quest other than instance ones. (A small peeve about lotro, they often send you to the same camp/area time after time on a quest series, each time with a different objective. May be a bonus for the RP of RPG, but since you normally have to kill a fair amount to get into these areas I'd prefer if I could do all objectives at once).

Got my final level and a half with the area just outside moria and the elf city. The good thing about that elf rep (which you must reach the first level just to enter the woods around and a couple more levels to get into the city proper) is that there are no rep items to turn in, just from quest. They also have a bunch of repeatable quest so after 2 days I'm only about half a dozen repeatable quest from max rep.

The only bad thing about my situation is that with few exception, my legendary weapons are all about level 60. I still need to head over to mirkwood to do quest there and figure how to get the level 65 legendaries.

The importance of 65 legendary items (LI) depends a lot on your class and I didn't know how to interpret LN. It's extremely important for the weapon if you're a DPS class, fairly important for both LI if you're a healer, and in many cases you can just stick with a first age level 60 for other slots. If you're a lore-master than a third age 65 staff and a first age 59 book is an excellent way to go.

The easiest way to get 65 3rd agers is simply picking a few up off the AH. You'll want to get started on this early because Turbine divided the item XP runes into two categories: <=60 and <= 65. Your current level 60 weapons will only decon into <=60 runes which cannot be applied to 61+ weapons, which means that effort leveling your current weapons will not apply over to your new weapons at all.

In order to get a 65 2nd ager you need to run an instance called Sammath Gul quite a few times until you win a drop that is used to craft it (Symbol of Celebrimbor). You should expect to get it on about your 20th run on average, but of course you could get it on your first (or never) depending on luck.

Yeah I know about the item xp split. I have a 59 staff maxed at 60 and a 59 book at 30...1hich won't really do much for me when I decon them.

What does suck is that I've got about 60 of the dwarf tools and 30 something tablets to get 53-59 items, but once you're past 60 they have really no use other than being able to trade in for a lot of items for an alt for the legacy lottery.

After leveling to 60 (The Max @ the time) and getting every Instance done (Except the watcher) in just 1.5-2 months, I dont know if I should go back. Personally I hate doing instances over and over and over.

The story of the game is fun, but as soon as you get to the top (imo) its boring. It might be because there are NO PLAYERS running around. Every auction house is ether dead or consisting of no more than 2 people. 21st hall may have a bunch of people but thats it... and for an MMO its not very populated. Now if they condensed servers and released server pop. information I might play again.

always been on brandy, while not as easy in getting some quest/instance groups at below max level content compared to something like wow, always seen bunches of peeps at the main pop centers and a pretty full, if not overpriced, AH.
