How much do you think that it will pull?

I went to catch the 4pm show and found out that ALL 10 showings for Wednesday were sold out at one of the biggest theatres in my area (Silvercity Metropolis). :Q:Q:Q I never saw any other movie like it.

So do you think that it will rape Spider Man's record? :D

I'm going to watch it two more times. :D:D:D Hopefully there will be an extended DVD edition for this one also. :)

BTW, I stood there and kept bugging the machine. I got lucky because some people sold back a couple of tickets so I managed to grab 3. My sister and her friend caught the 3:30pm show and I got in to the 4pm show. My friend voluntarily backed out, so it kinda sucked that he couldn't get a hold of a ticket (and I noticed a bunch of empty seats at the bottom rows.. oh well..), but the movie was great.

I've seen movies with evening shows getting sold out, but never every afternoon and evening shows. Nuts.

But oh well. I'm going with a bunch of friends. They'll figure something out. :D

I haven't a clue how to ski. I booked a full-day lesson for Friday, though. :) And shelled out lots of $$$ today to get ready. :):(

Im predicting it will shatter existing records. Ive never seen anything like it before with people lingin up, and hell, I've already seen it twice, and will probably see it next weekend.

Every bit of praise is deserved. The biggest problem with the movie is that its TOO SHORT!

Unless they dont count wednesday and thursday, the biggest days for the fanboys to see it.

It will easily break the first movie's box office.

My theater:
12:01am showing: sold out 3 weeks ahead of time (2 shows)
All matinees were then sold out (3 shows)
Night shows 7pm, 7:30pm, 8pm, 9pm, 9:30pm, 11:30pm all sold out

so yeah, 11 shows sold out in 24 hours in one theater.

Oh, and the glowing reviews should help.
97% at rotten tomatoes
Reviews counted: 116
Fresh: 113 Rotten: 3

TTT also just got a Golden Globe nomination for best picture, which virtually guarantees the oscar nomination for best pic. TTT will clean up even more than FOTR I think!

Without intending any detraction from TTT, I feel that FOTR is the better of the two. But I'll bet that TTT will still do very well in the box office. FOTR has more acting in it, IMO. TTT has more extras and props. That makes sense, because FOTR was introducing the characters.

Let put it this way, If it doesnt destroy every movie ever released in opening box office I will be dumbfounded. I got tix yesterday but the only reason I did was because our local theater opened up a new screen at the last second...

There is no way it'll beat the all time opening numbers. Its 3 hours long so you can't fit near as many showings in per day. Unfortunetly

It'll be interesting to see how TT Rotten Tomatoe score goes up against FOTR. Fellowship only got 9 rotten reviews total 173. So Two Towers is about even with 3 rotten outta 116

Of course it will do incredibly well but I don't think it will beat Spiderman, which had a much more universal mainstream appeal.

I do think that the LOTR series will be among the most profitable movies of all time. A modest budget, amazing box office both in the U.S. and foreign markets, mass market merchandise, soundtrack sales, video game & other multimedia licensing, and great DVD sets that people will be buying for years to come add up to $$$$... New Line must be rolling in dough right now.

Wednesday's earnings were just estimated at 27.3 million in north america. Not bad for one day. :Q

I would not be surprised if it makes $200 million in the first two weeks.... This weekend I would say there is a decent chance that it will top $100 million

i watched at 4pm yesterday sold out shows. the scale of this movie was unlike anything i've ever seen. my dad flew in from chicago to see it with me in kansas city. i'm taking my gf again this weekend for our 2nd viewing. it looked like they spent $300 million on this movie alone.

From Boxofficemojo

'The Two Towers' is estimated to have taken in a whopping $27-28 million at 3,622 theaters and an estimated 6,500 screens on Wednesday. That shatters the $18.2 million December opening day record that 'The Fellowship of the Ring' posted last year at 3,359 venues and around 5,700 screens. It also stands as the sixth biggest opening day ever: Opening Day Chart. The estimate is based on the $21.8 million it generated at 2,526 theaters reporting to Nielsen EDI, the firm that tabulates over 80% of theaters' box office revenue for the industry. The actual number will be posted at the site at around noon Pacific time in the daily section.

No, it won't beat Spider-Man's opening weekend record.
1. It opened on Wednesday, so the Friday through Sunday tallies won't be as high
2. It's a longer movie than Spider-Man, so the theatres fit in fewer showings.

Spiderman will be a tough mark in the US, but internationally it's doing very well.

From Theonering.net:
Opening day-and-date in countries, the film broke all single day records in Denmark, and marked the highest opening day ever in Germany, Austria, Finland, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and Norway. Further, the film posted increases from last year?s opening day of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in all territories, up as high as 98% in Belgium.
