Star Wars (and not this PM, Attack of the Clones garbage), the original trilogy. Jackson adapted books, Lucas did not. Star Wars had heroes that you wanted to be, LOTR has Aragon the everyman hero and Legoias but neither of them could hold a candle to Luke Skywalker.

Saw ROTK last night and I wasn't as enthused about it as most of the people here on ATOT seem to be.

Agreed. The LOTR trilogy pales in comparison with the Star Wars original trilogy.

It's a pretty tough call between LotR and the original Star Wars, but my vote went for LotR simply because I generally enjoy fantasy settings over science-fiction. Both are great trilogies, and both do a great job of storytelling.

However, I might have to say that the Godfather trilogy (esp. I and II) overshadows all.

I think LOTR is getting a lot of votes because everyone is watching them right now.
The original Star Wars came out in 1977.

That doesn't matter.
LOTR is still one of the greatest epics of all time, and was part of the influence for Star Wars to begin with.

Also, LOTR doesn't have a "gimpy leg" in the trilogy whereas SW has ESB.

In addition, LOTR isn't in danger of "fixing" like Lucas is going to do (again) with the original trilogy.

It does matter if those movies came out long before you started to go to the theater to watch them. 1977 is a long time ago, how many people on ATOT can clearly remember seeing Star Wars at the theater? I certainly can not, all I recall was where I saw it. I can barely recall Return of the Jedi and that was in 1983.

LOTR is the here and now and would start off with more votes just because of that.
The second Star Wars trilogy is what a lot of people are going with today and, well, they suck compare to the original.

I dunno... A new hope just barely beats fellowship, empire, just barely beats towers, and the jedi gets beat by the king. It's pretty close.

When the hell are they gonna make that "Debbie does Dallas" Trilogy, and I don't even have to give the spoilers to that one, you'd know what happens in the end.

I am going to go with the first 3 starwars movies. LOTR rings was still good, it is practically a tie in my opinion. The new star wars suck though.

LOTR is the only tirlogy you have listed. There have been 10 Star Trek movies, and there are 6 Star Wars movies.

LOTR is the best anyway! :D

Luke is an annoying whiner - by far my least favorite SW character...go Han! and obviously he wasn't that good or else Mark Hamil might've done something with his career after SW. :)

Holy sh!t, I just got through seeing LOTR:ROTK and let me tell you, after seeing all three LOTR movies, Star Wars (original trilogy) beats them hands down! I can't find anything extaordinary about the LOTR series. When a new Star Wars movie comes out and Star Wars comes up on the movie screen for the first time with the theme music, I just don't get that cool feeling with any other movie.

Star Wars (origionals). Simply because of what was done with so little (at least with the first one) and modest technology. Also, they weren't based on already excellent books.

Just my opinion
