LOTR question: did the Ring shrink?

In the movie it seems to me that the ring when Sauron still had it was much bigger than the one Frodo carries. Did it shrink somehow?

Didn't read the novel but in the movie, when Isildur grabs the ring, you could notice that it shrank.

Yeah, it clearly decreases in size when Isildur holds it. Not sure if that was in the book or not.

ok, I went back to watch that scene and the ring does shrink in size. Now I'm wondering if that happened in the book also.

Does it say specifically in the book that the ring will conform to the size of the finger of whoever wears it? I mean since Sauron made it, I'm sure he never intended for anyone else to wear it but himself only, so he would not make the ring fit someone else's finger.

I believe that it alludes to the idea that the ring conforms to it's holder, because it has a will of its own. (that serves the master, Sauron of course)

In Isildur's scroll that Gandalf found in Minas Tirith, Isildur mentions that it shrank when he took it. Bilbo also mentioned that it seemed to grow and shrink spontaneously, being loose, where it had been tight only moments ago.

In the books, the ring shrinks and expands...which is one reason why no one but Sauron was able to hold onto it for long...

...except for Gollum, but even he lost it in "The Hobbit."

If a bacterium started to grow on the inside of the Ring, would that bacterium become the mighty Dark Lord of the Bacteria?

Doubt the ring would bother to give power to a being which could not benefit the ring itself.

That was kind of a dumb question. No it would not.

it changes to fit the finger of the person who posses it.

Not exactly. It would change size to suit its purpose in an attempt to get back to its master. That is why if fell off Isildur's finger when he was ambushed crossing the Gladden Feilds.

Wow, that was a little harsh, use your imagination!😀

How would you tell if the ring made the bacterium invisible or not?

If the bacterium grew on the inside surface of the ring for a while and then got scraped off, would it devolve into a hagard, old looking bacterium, and spend the rest of its life trying to swim back to the ring? What if it grew there long enough that it faded into a wraith? Can bacteria become wraiths?

If a pregnant lady put the ring on would the baby be invisible?

If the ring were to lay on the ground long enough for a tree to sprout inside it, and the tree grew up, could you climb the invisible tree and look like you're floating? Would any termites living in the wood of the invisible tree be invisible too?

It would be really cool to watch a snake crawl through the Ring of Power.

Why didn't Frodo's *spoiler* bit off finger stay invisible before Gollum took the Ring off it?

Does air inside the Ring turn invisible?

If you put a condom on your finger and then put on the Ring would you turn invisible, or is contact with flesh a prerequisite? If that's the case then I guess reanimated skeletons are just out of luck? What about sentient beings who lack fingers or other suitable apendages?

Could a light saber cut through the Ring of Power?

😀

ITs in the book. And the ring does actually get heavier. It can change its physical properties at will.
I thought the ring getting heavier didn't mean the ring actually was gaining weight, it was more of Frodo's way of saying that the ring's temptation was growing more of a burden on him. In ROTK, doesn't Sam carry Frodo a while when he mentions it being so heavy, but Sam notices that Frodo seems to weigh less then before (because of the poor nutrition)?
